I am SO out of the loop when it comes to my Nook. My hubbie got it for me for Christmas, but I have YET to purchase a book. I've just been doing all free books on it, and buying real books otherwise. I just went to purchase the "The Bronzed Horseman" in ebook... and SHOCK... seriously?? It is about the same price as a real book. Sigh. I thought the books would be a bit less than the actual physical books. So... I've heard that you can purchase shareable licensed books. Has anyone done this? I have no idea how it works. And would anyone want to go in on purchasing the Tatiana and Alexander series books with me? Or is this not how it works?
I have a Kindle...so I don't think I can share with you Nook users, but I was wondering the same thing. How does this work??
I've never done it before either, but I do know that Kindle books won't share with Nook and vice versa, because they are different formats. In addition, the book needs to be marked as "lendable" - that's up to the publisher, not Amazon or B&N. Quite a few books can't be lent because the publisher won't allow it. Amazon's "how-to" is here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200549320
Oh, and as for the price, I've found that generally, they are a bit lower than what I would normally pay for a hardbound book at Costco - what they have at costco for $15.59 I can find for my kindle for about 12.99
My Mom and I both have Nook's and have shared books before. Like Julie said, they have to say lendable and not many do that we've purchased so far. PLUS, the big downside is that you can only lend a book once and once you accept the lend, you only have two weeks to read it before it automatically goes back to the original owner. If you can read a big book in two weeks then it won't be a problem, but just consider that before moving forward on sharing cost of a book. I also read a lot of my iphone so I have the Kindle and Nook apps, so I just bought the Bronze Horseman (after checked the HUGE fat book out at the library). It was only $1.99 in Kindle version so I'll read it on my iPhone instead of my Nook.
I just bought it too Karen for $1.99! Krista, do you have an iPad? You can put the Kindle app on that (or an iPhone or Droid) and get it for the cheaper price. Can you install the app on your computer? eta: I just saw there is a Kindle app for your computer http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/ref=kcp_short_kindleapps?ie=UTF8&docId=1000493771 so if someone didn't have a Kindle, they could grab the app for their computer and the Bronze Horseman is only $1.99 through Amazon.
I have only tried to share once & my sister shared a book from her Kindle on her iphone but I couldn't open it on the Kindle on my DroidX. I don't know why but I learned that the type of device you are using makes a difference too. Glad to hear Broze Horseman is only $1.99.
Krista, I know this doesn't help, but I got The Bronze Horsemen on my Nook for free a few months ago. IT was one of the Free Friday selections. Make sure you check for those every week cause they really do have some good ones!!
