i open up a ton of patterned papers and then use window > arrange > tile to see them all. just drag your page out to the front.

Wow y'all are geniuses. Do you mInd if I troll this thread for a blog post?! Like, TLP members favorite tips! With credit of course :)

If you have a zillion layers and can't find something... while in the move tool, hold down CTRL and then click on the item you're looking for. It'll take you to the correct layer. :)
Karen, I :beat you! For as long as I've been using PS I never knew this trick. Since I read your comment I've been using this constantly. What a time saver!

P.S. The Mac equivalent is Command-Click.

Glad you like it! That's how I felt when I stumbled upon this one too! :) Simple pleasures in life, huh? :)

In Photoshop (not sure about Elements), when a dialog box comes up where you need to click on something - like one of these:

Instead of moving your cursor over to click on your choice, you can just hit the first letter of the word (i.e, S for Save, C for Cancel, etc). I love this one!

I made F1 a short cut to Edit - Transform - Scale and F3 to Edit - Transform - Rotate

Saves me eons.

This one is pretty new to me (maybe 3 months or so):

In your layers palette, there is that little corner drop-down arrow (top-right, beside 3 very small horizontal lines), click that, go to Layers Palette Options, and choose Thumbnail Contents = "Layer Bounds" instead of "Entire Document". Then you will see your photo or elements take up the whole layer's thumbnail, instead of having that photo/element represented inside the entire document. Makes it much easier to see which layer you want:

Journaling:
Journal as if you were writting in a diary, NEVER edit (except for spelling). It is more real that way. Let what ever comes to your mind just flow out onto your layout! :P

This, I need to do. I over-edit.

ohhh yes i NEVER EVER edit unless it's to correct spelling errors. ever.

HeatherB - i :beat that one! now to go back and read the rest! :)

CTRL+ALT+I is the short cut for resizing (great for resizing for web, just remember to merge (CTRL+SHIFT+E) the layers first, for optimal results!)

These are terrific tips. I found Karen's tip on a blog a while back and nearly cried when I realized that it worked. It cut my scrapping time in half because I didn't have to hunt for each object and I started choosing more complicated templates because I now had a plan for handling all the layers.
Like Angie, on my mac I made cntl+f=flatten all layers. It's not too necessary for scrapping per se but for some photography actions it's invaluable.
