All my attempts as shadowing wasi (sp?) tape has ended up sucking like a dyson. Seriously....it's a problem! Can I get some tips on how to create realistic, good shadows for tape??? How do you do it? Thank you!
try changing the blend. multiply or linear is too dark and shadows the inside of the tape... color burn works better for me, kinda makes a small lift as it darkens the area of the tape, not a direct drop shadow (like 5distance and 7 size and zero spread) and I will also create a new layer(the shadow) for some tapes and erase the part directly under the tape. layer 1-tape with shadow right click on shadow effect and create new layer then you can play with that shadow as its own layer I think you could also do an inner glow on the tape, the shadow so slight, that having a burn on the edge is really all you need?
This! Some tapes work better than others, but you just have to play around with the basic ideas she shares. http://onelittlebirddesigns.com/2012/01/digital-washi-tap/
@chickypow , there is only one thing I do differently than on the video. 1. I create a new layer on top of the tape. 2. CMD + click on the thumbnail of the tape (CTRL +click on windows) 3. Fill layer with 50% gray (F5 or Shift F5 can't remember which one) 4. Change blending to Overlay 5. Now do all the same steps she does in the tape but on this grey tape. Why? You are not modifying the tape, so if you think it's too much, you can pile up grey paint again and go at it again. Much faster than bringing a new tape into the page.
Cheryl (Fiddle Dee Dee) did a washi shadowing video tutorial that was linked up with one of her template sets- https://the-lilypad.com/store/Wishi-Washi-Dressed-Down-Digital-Scrapbook-Template.html. Maybe that will help?
I do this, too, but if you alt-click (or ctrl-click? I can't remember, since I actually use an action…) on the "New Layer" button, it lets you set the fill and blend mode right there, as well as setting it to clip to the layer below.
@lorryfach , It creates the new layer, makes a mask but the fill is for the entire page instead of just the area that is selected, correct? I can easily do a SHIFT + INVERSE + DELETE. I think I may make this into an action, that is a great idea.
Yes, it fills the whole page, but there's a checkbox to have it clip the layer below so I just do that. I can't think of any advantage either way between clipping or deleting. The end effect is the same, right?
This thread is everything that's RIGHT about scrappers and crafters in general. They ask for help and they share ideas. I'm not surprised that there is a wealth of tutorials about how to shadow washi tape. It makes me so happy to belong to a community that is so generous with help and ideas.
