shadowing tape, etc... a tutorial out there maybe?

I will find it, Peppermint(one little bird) has one with cool ideas and tape on her blog...just have to hunt it down

I just use a small drop shadow and switch to linear burn on the blending mode.

 

I've been using Peppermint's method for a while but I love Allison's too! Unfortunately I don't have full PS yet but I've bookmarked it for when I eventually do! Y'all are such a fountain of knowledge! =)

I use layer styles to make my shadow in photoshop, but change the fill setting so you don't see the shadow through the tape, just beside/below it. Here's how: I make a selection of the tape, then make a new layer and fill the selection with a colour (usually white but any colour will work). I add my drop shadow using layer effects to this new layer, and then in the layers pallet, adjust the fill to 0% - now you will see the layer effect but not the content of the layer (i.e. whatever colour you filled your selection with). Probably sounds confusing but I'm too lazy to do screen shots Not as realistic as Allison's tutorial, but it's quick.
