This has been on my mind for a few days actually. Is there an easier way to recolor multiple alphas than one at a time using the "Adjust Hue/Saturation" sliders in PSE? Recoloring alphas to match each other is not my fave thing to do when doing each one individually, hence why more often than not I end up being lazy and using a piece of word art!
I copy and paste my alphas to a blank page and than merge them and change color all together. If that makes sense??? You can do it like what you want to say on the page for example "Happy Birthday" in the size you want for your page.. change the color and than copy onto the page your making
Yep, that makes perfect sense, can't believe I didn't think of that before. I guess though you'd have to do any shadows before merging the alphas or do you do it after?
I've done it both ways.. but I prefer to do it before merging.. as than you can do a different shadow on each letter to make them stand out more..
Put all the layers of the alpha (even with shadows or apply the drop shadow style to the group too ) into a group and then apply the hue adjustment to the group (clip the hue adjustment layer to the group layer). That will change them all. This can be done in pse. What is great about this way is you can always click back on the hue adjustment layer and adjust again if you change your mind on the color before your page is done.
Learn something new everyday, thanks @cfile. I knew there had to be a more efficient/effective way of doing it than I’ve been doing up until now.
@cfile, could I also use the same method (grouping) if I was using a style on the alphas to change them or am I dreaming with that idea?
Great questions @littlekiwi! I learned something new too! I need to use that group function more often!
@littlekiwi Jennifer, Here are some screen shots of PSE.. (the same can be done with PS as well) Group the alphas. (Highlight all the alpha layers of your word, then right click with mouse and Group Layers) Select a Hue Adjustment layer (the half blue/half white circle at the top of the layer palette) Clip the hue adjustment layer to the group and use the slider to change color... then on the group folder layer is where the shadow gets added ... [***NOTE.. if you wanted a double shadow in PSE you can add the shadow to the individual layers of letters inside the group, and then add another drop shadow to the group folder layer] Click on screen shots to make pictures larger
@littlekiwi Jennifer I have asked Julie to move this thread over to the Learning Pad as I believe there is helpful info in this thread for how to recolor alphas Thanks for asking the great question!
No problem @cfile, wasn’t sure if only polly’s posted threads there hence why I popped it in the Scrapping Pad
We can move things over to the learning pad. I would suggest to keep doing as you do, posting in the scrapping pad with your questions
@cfile I've run into a problem....I'm following your instructions but I can only get one of my alphas to change color by adding a layer mask with the color I want within the group (the one thats immediately below the group). Have I made a mistake or do I need to layer mask each individual letter?
