Hi and welcome to a new 'Hear My Voice' themed Mixed Media Challenge.

If you're not familiar with the 'Hear My Voice' Brand it's a monthly collaboration by Rachel Jefferies and Lynn Grieveson Designs.

Each month rich textures and unique digital artistry are created from a mixture of mediums to provide you with the right tools for expressing your thoughts and feelings through art journaling or mixed media scrapbooking.

This is a monthly space for collectors of Hear My Voice Digital Art to scrap their stash and get creative together.
First congratulations to the random winner of the July HMV collection @julianz!:cheer

In this month’s challenge we will explore the theme of “Masking”.

For this mixed media art journaling challenge, dive into the theme of emotional and psychological masks. These masks can serve as a way to navigate through social expectations, protect our vulnerability, maintain professionalism, or cope with life’s challenges. Your challenge is to visually explore these masks and the impact they have on your life, while also envisioning the liberation that comes with unmasking and embracing your true self.

When I first started working out at the gym, I hid myself in loose-fitting clothes, oversized shirts and baggy jogging pants. I couldn’t imagine myself ever working out in tight-fitting leggings and tops. However, I quickly transitioned from jogging pants to leggings, though I still paired them with oversized shirts. Eventually, a very hot summer encouraged me to switch to tops, first oversized, then gradually to tight-fitting ones. This gradual change made me feel less body-conscious and very liberated.

For this challenge create a mixed media page that represents the theme of “masking”. It can be a visual page, with journaling if you wish, and with or without a photo.

You can, but you don’t have to explain your “Masking”, you can just make it visual if you prefer not to journal with use of different types of masks, layering (each layer representing different facets of the masks we wear), textures that mimic the idea of masks, transparent materials like vellum (visualising dept and transparency), contrasting colours for duality in emotions, like bright being outward and dark being inward…

For my page I used Rachel’s and Lynn’s Hear my voice collection - 12 Masking. I loved adding the butterfly as a symbol for metamorphosis, shedding old layers (masks) to reveal one’s authentic selves.

This is a product challenge, and Hear My Voice Products need to make up 75% of the products used on your page, but you can use any Hear my voice collection or even a combination of collections that you wish.

See the notes at the end of the challenge for further product clarification.

My page

@Rachel Jefferies
"My journaling is hidden within the layers, I photographed my handwriting and created a digital stamp to add it to my layout, there's a tutorial for that by me here.
I was inspired by one of Lynn's word strips from the Masking kit, I cropped it so that just the phrase 'The Best You' was visible and my page is themed around a time I felt I was the best version of myself and some regrets I have now".

Hello There Everyone...

I have a quote from ajm [Aly] about this challenge as it relates to my layout :

"Masking can symbolize various aspects of our emotional lives, including how we cope with and conceal our grief." [Thank You! so very much Aly]

*My layout certainly is centered around my grief journey & attempts to embody these themes. It was a somber year on June 9th,that my Beloved Ray has passed away...A year gone by...How time flies...While it seems...that almost everyone has moved on after his passing...I still cry each & every day over the loss of my beloved Ray...I don't pretend to have the answers about grief or know how I will feel moving forward...I can only scrap about what I know & how I feel in the "right now"...And for right now...that is all about my grief...I thought maybe I should stop creating these kinds of layouts...but...2 very kind & thoughtful people told me...that it is perfectly acceptable to create as many layouts about Grief,as I feel I need to create...even if that is for the rest of my life...because grief is also about love & life...and these are lifelong feelings that we will carry with us...in our hearts forever...:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub:heartlub ...

My : Hard Days & Hard Nights : Layout : [full credits will be in my gallery]

I need to get some more HMV items! Working with nothing here! lol
I always feel that for me it is two steps forward, one step back. And I never want other folks to see my steps back.
Getting more HMV items might offer new ideas and inspiration. I empathize, opening up and showing vulnerability is hard...

There is just a little time left to participate in this challenge...

This challenge is now closed, thank you all so much for all your beautiful layouts!

Thank you for the kind words! Just a quick note, Julianz was actually the winner of challenge no. 2. The winner for challenge no. 3 hasn’t been announced yet. I’ll be back soon with a new challenge and the announcement of the challenge no. 3 winner. @LuLuLor
