I recently had a request to re-post this tutorial from MOC 2015 on how to use Puppet Warp... so here you go! Enjoy! Also, please note this is only for people who have Photoshop CS5 and above... Hello everyone! Today I am super excited to show you a little trick to modify elements like strings to make them work perfectly on your page. Sometimes I'll pull a string or ribbon onto my page and no matter which way I rotate or shrink the element, it'll cover something on my page that I want shown. Rather than just cut off that part of the string or ribbon, I use Puppet Warp to modify my string or ribbon just like bending it or forming it with my own hands. On my page below you'll see that the bottom bit on the twine string is covering part of my journaling and I just didn't like the shape as it came in. To manipulate my string, I want to use Puppet Warp. Do do this, I clicked Edit (in the menus along the top of Photoshop) and then clicked on Puppet Warp. (make sure you have the string layer selected in the layers palette) This will add a mesh over the whole string. All you have to do is click around a few places on the string that you don't want to move. These are your anchor points. Once you have those just click and drag on the portion that you want to move and drag it around until you get it how you want it and then click the check mark or hit enter to complete the warp. The picture below shows where I added anchor points (with yellow arrows) and the pink arrow is where I clicked and dragged the part I wanted to move: It is amazing how Photoshop can bend a string or ribbon without making it look stretched out or blurry! Here's my page after I Puppet Warped my string: Easy Peasy! Have fun!
yup! loved it! and i use it all the time! especially to move bits of scatters or confetti around! just the most awesome easiest trick ever!
What the!! Wow I didnt know I could do that!! Now for me to just remember this when it comes time to use it.
OMG! Do you know how many times I could have used this in the past several years! Thank you so much for posting this!
Yes! That is crazy! It's SO useful! Go play! Lol! I know! I don't use it all the time, but it sure is awesome on those occasions where it's needed! I know @jenn mccabe uses it all the time on scatters too.
i think it was danielle @sushimommy -who actually came up with the idea to use it on scatters. i literally just finished a page ... and used puppet warp to move my little scatter bits around just perfectly where i needed them. love it!
Its been such a long time @Karen - but i still see myself returning to this tutorial so many times!! thanks once again for this awesome tip!!
Oh is THAT how it works!? I've always planned to read up on it "one day" but never got around to it. Who knew it was that easy peasy? Thanks for the great explanation!
Oh my gosh! I'm glad this popped up again. You know how many times I've been bothered by something covering something else? For scatters it seems especially magical! I usually delete pieces in scatters that cover my journaling or faces; now I can just move them. Thank you!
