So if you're not planning to print out journal cards (which I don't *think* I am at this point), do I need some sort of special pen? Back when I paper scrapped at least 100 years ago, I used special Creative Memories markers, but am not sure if I need something like that again.

Also, just wanted to mention that Becky and I spent a good long time browsing through a paper scrapbooking store and were completely geaked out to see Lili's designs there. We kind of fell in love with all the paper goodies, but then decided it was much too complicated for us, and I'm happily back at my computer. :)

Hi Melissa! I'm actually writing an article on TLP blog on 2/7 about journaling pens! Because. ahem, I might have a large collection of pens. Most pens are acid free now, so I don't tend to worry too much about whether a pen is or not.

For my personal journal-writing and Project Life preferences, I really like these pens:

Sharpie Pens - they write fine lines, are felt tip, don't slip, and they don't smell or bleed through the paper at all. I like these especially on the thin papers in my Moleskine journal, because the minimal bleed-through makes it tolerable to write on the back of the pages when I flip to the next day. And they come in cute colors.

Uni-ball Signo 207 - again, cute colors. Good ink flow and never skips. Very smooth writing.

Zebra Sarasa - very smooth writing, good lines, and cool colors again.

Pentel EnerGel Deluxe - I love these for journaling because they write very smoothly and they dry VERY fast! So you can write and quickly put the journal cards into the pockets and they won't smear. I know some left-handed people love this pen for this reason alone.

For titles on journal cards, I like to use BIC Mark-It ultra fine point markers. I have this pack in 36 colors and I also use it for all kinds of coloring and crafting.

I have more pens but I need to save some for the blog post. But I love the ones above! :)

So... now that I found the links to the above pens on Amazon... that is a dangerous thing... I'm down the Amazon rabbit hole and finding new pens I want. Oopsies.

This is a great question Melissa. I was wondering the same thing myself. I have the creative memory ones too, and the ink in them is still good, so I thought I'd use those and the Smash ones I bought the other day.

Christine. You are the ultimate enabler. How fun!! I'm going to have to order some...now to decide which ones I'll need! LOL I love writing with a ball point pen, but for some reason never thought to use them on this. I like that you mentioned that some don't skip. That's one of my pet peeves!!

I completely told her that she needed to ask you, because I knew you had a special place in your heart for pens! LOL

Actually I don't *think* any of these are ballpoint pens? The Sharpies are felt tip pens. The other ones are liquid gel pens, and the BIC ones are felt-tip markers.

I guess I think of gel pens as kind of ball point pens, but you're so right...they aren't! I've only had good luck with a few types of the gel pens too...so I'll try these and hope I have better luck! I'll order a few now an try them out...maybe get some more next month :)

I tried a bunch of pens last year and was only meh on most, except for the Sharpies. It's all I am using for my journaling this year. They are perfect.

I am really excited for your blog post, Christine! :)

I've been using the Sharpie pens as well and I love them!

Wow and yay for so many Sharpies pen fans! I just discovered that they have new colors out now!

O.K. I found a shop where I can buy them in Germany:happydance-will try them!
Do you have any experiences if the black still is black after some years?
With the pens I used I had problems that it was much lighter after some years...

Christine - THANK you! I am a pen geek, but I never seem the find JUST the ONE! But I do think you sold me in on the Pentel one! That sounds amazing!

I just bought a pen last week, and it was kinda expensive. When I tried it in the store, it was GREAT, smooth lines, good color etc. But when I got home and started the actual writing - it was crap. It smears all over the place. And it has no form for protector where you hold your fingertips, so a sharp edge is kinda eating it's way into my finger. LOL Don't you just love that?:giggle

Well, I ordered the Sharpies, the Uni-Balls, and the Pentel ones. I wishlisted the rest, and I'm sure I'll be wishlisting or ordering more soon after your blog comes out on the 7th!! LOL
