I have a ton of paper clips etc but I have never been one to use paper clips or the like cause I don't know how to clip them to anything. Can anyone help me with simple directions using Photoshop Elements?
@A-M thank you, for me they have just fallen in the too hard basket yet I love some of the paper clips I have so want to use them.
I actually just layer them as is on top of the photo and add a little bow and leave it like that. I am way too lazy to remove what is supposed to go below and dodge and burn for it to be realistic.
@littlekiwi Here is a written tutorial by Kim Jensen @KimJ how to use clips and making realistic shadows with them. http://kimjensendesigns.com/tutorials/Tutorial-BumpEffect.html PS and for PSE http://kimjensendesigns.com/tutorials/Tutorial-BumpEffect-PSE.html
i have a collection of them too, some come 'pre-clipped' which is pretty cool! i think i use them more to make pockets or travellers notebook style pages look a bit more real - they can be a bit annoying to work with (ill have to remember Stefanie's trick!) but i think i separate the shadow layer first before erasing the part of the paperclip tht would be under the page but leave the shadow to give it a 'creased' look like with the arrow one here
Christa, I have been wanting to know how to do this, because I LOVE LOVE LOVE @KimJ 's preview but mine never turned as good!
Jennifer, there are a lot of tutorials in the learning pad and regarding masks, I have a few videos as well that I did for PSE showing how to mask. Once you start using them you will love them. This is the perfect time to learn new things Good luck and give a holler if you get stuck.
@littlekiwi Do not get intimidated by masks they are a wonderful thing. I use them all the time to an alternative to "cutting" a piece out of an element.
Do this little homework. 1. Go to Photoshop. 2. Open a paper and add an element. 3. Have the element layer selected. 4. Click on the layer mask. It is a grey square with a white circle inside. 5. Make sure that you are selecting the mask in your layers and NOT the element. The mask is going to show as a white rectangle in your layer. 6. Now that your mask is selected in your layers go and select the BRUSH. At this moment I don't care what brush you use. I change the brush depending on what I am doing. 7. With your brush selected and your mask selected your brush colors WILL be black and white (photoshop does this automatically). 8. Since your mask is white make sure you select the black as your forward color or the color that looks more on top . 9. Go and use the brush over your element. It should be "deleting" (it's hiding it) some of the element. If you can't see it make sure on the top settings of your brush that your opacity it's pretty high, ok?
I usually avoid all types of fasteners as I never paper scrapped and really don't care about making a page look real. LOL It is real, just digital real! I bet there may be only 3 or 4 layouts in my gallery with a staple, paper clip etc.
