*sigh* As many of you know, we got a new puppy last weekend. In preparation for the puppy phase, we put baby gates up to block off the kitchen/hearth room/mud room areas of the house. We wanted to confine Miss Puppy there because it's all hard surface flooring, which makes for easy clean up with accidents. On Tuesday, in a moment of pure grace, I went to step over the gate and instead caught my big toe in it. When I tried to pull my foot out, I ripped my big toe nail completely off. #%$$#!!!!

Let me just say that I gave birth to a 9 pound baby with no pain meds and this hurt MORE. It's been 5 days and I still can't walk. My BFF is my doctor. She pointed out to me that they torture people by pulling out their toenails, so yes, a great deal of pain is to be expected. :dizzy I'm on pain pills and antibiotics because it looked like it was getting infected. Awesome. So, if I start not making sense, you'll know why...

I said it before and I'll say it again. I am SO sorry that happened and I'm feeling your pain. Hope you feel better soon and I certainly hope it does NOT get infected!!! :(
 
Oh my goodness this just gives me goosebumps. YOUCH!!

I say prop the foot up and grab a bell - let everyone wait on you hand and foot! ;)
 
You poor thing! That has to hurt so bad! I agree with what Trista is saying and grab a bell!
For a second I thought you meant your entire toe, not just your toenail. Holy OUCH!!!
 
That's horrible, Laura! I hope the pain meds help and that you start healing quickly.

I did forget the word "nail" in my post, didn't I?! LOL Blame it on the meds. :giggle I ETAed.
 
Thanks, guys. Hubby has been a fantastic nurse. He even made me cookies. My teenager said she likes how "docile" I am on the pain meds. Gee, thankssomuch.

Ouch Laura! I too got goosebumps when I read your post. Yikes! I sure hope it will not get infected! Sending you lots of healing thoughts and hope it will be better soon!
 
You poor thing!!!!! I hope you get better soon. And can enjoy some puppy cuddles. Those always make me happy.
 
Ouch! They took mine off (big toe nail) for my surgery on Monday and after the anesthesia wore off I wanted to stab someone. The orthopedist said it would be "uncomfortable" when I had asked him how much it would hurt after my foot regained feeling.

He and I have much different definitions of "uncomfortable". I hurt about 1000% more post-surgery than when I went in. I swear it's been worse than my c-section recovery. And I had mine surgically removed, so I can only imagine how great it must feel to have the DIY version.

Mine finally started feeling better yesterday, but tomorrow I go in to have new xrays done and get my stitches out so I'm scared to death that it'll start all over again once he messes with it again.
 
OUCH!!!!! Omg, Laura!! That is so awful! I can't imagine your pain, well I can cause I too gave birth without pain meds and it hurt a lot LOL
Praying for you to have a full recovery soon and the pain goes aways faster! {{{hugs}}}
 
I've been shivering since starting this thread... I cannot imagine how much this hurt, Laura. I've broken my toe before so know that toes can hurt a lot but this has to be miserable.

{I will admit to giggling about Peppermint's DIY version comment}
 
oh my - OUCH!! i hope it gets better quickly - for you and P!! i am cringing just thinking about it !!
 
oooh, this sounds awful! I'm wincing just reading this thread... Laura & Peppermint I hope you both feel better soon!
