Since there has been no recommendations thread set up for May, Shall we give @crystalbella77 a break and read the book that came second in last months votes ? http://www.amazon.com/Spoon-River-A...7491494&sr=8-1&keywords=spoon+river+anthology Spoon river anthology. If anyone has a better idea that's good too LOL
It may have come in second because so many folks have read it. I read it I. High school and later saw it on stage which is the most effective. I think we should make suggestions and vote on them as usual. There is nothing stopping someone from making the same recommendation this month as last.
While on my cruise, I copied the list of books they had for their book club. Some looked pretty good.
I was looking forward to both The Circle and Light of the Fireflies from last month's list, neither of which made it into the voting..
An adult book for a change would be good. I just finished Flat Lake In Winter by Joseph Klempner. It's was a BookBub cheap read, but it was very sophisticated and a great read. Not to long either for slower readers.
I vote for Spoon River I think it would be a quick read, and likely many libraries have it. (I've been a little bit frustrated with the long wait lists for some of the books suggested.) It is an old book, and maybe a lot have read it in school, but I think it would be interesting to read again with an adult perspective. And it DID get second place last month! Probably the best I'm ever going to get for my book suggestions, LOL. And just another thought ... in my old book club we often found that with too many books to choose from, there was often no clear "winner" when we voted. I like the idea of giving some of the older nominated books another chance instead of just making the list even longer.
I think it's also worth considering deciding several (3-4) months of books ahead of time, so people have time to get on the wait lists if needed.. Also, no reason they can't read "ahead of time" then pipe in for the actual discussion once that month rolls around.. Just an idea..
I would like to nominate a old suspense novel by Mary Higgens Clarke. Where are the children. http://www.amazon.com/Where-Childre...393313&sr=1-1&keywords=where+are+the+children I think is is one of her best, but several of her earlier ones are really good. I also like Ambers idea.
If we do Vote for more than one month at the time, perhaps the Life of PI also, even though it is older, I for one am only just thinking about reading it now. And that too can be picked up cheap. http://www.amazon.com/Life-Pi-Yann-...qid=1461393530&sr=1-2&keywords=the+life+of+pi
@crystalbella77 Seems this thread took on a life of its own. Haven't seen you about for a bit,so I hope all this is ok with you.
Love this idea! Thank you so much! I am ok! Just busy now that the weather is nice! We have been outside sooooo much!!! Also migraines are becoming more frequent and dealing with about 1 major one a week which is sooo hard! OK! I will start a thread to vote on the next 4 months? I will set it up for multiple answers and then the top 4 can be the next 4 months? Should I start a new thread for nominations??? I am sorry I got so behind! I am on my computer so much less during the Spring I'll try to do better!
A new thread would be useful. I'd say take at least all the 2nd and third placers from previous, add any new and the top four could be for the next four months..
K! I will work on a thread for the next few months this evening! So post here anything you want to recommend! I will also grab the top few from the previous months like Lindzee suggested!
I like the idea of choosing an adult book this time, and voting for them several months in advance too. I've been absent from the discussing for a few months but have been reading along each month. I'm looking forward to participating here again now that highschool basketball season is over (I have 2 kids that play) and my insane life has slowed down and I have time to be at my computer again!!
