Hey everyone! I'm embarking on a project for my husband creating a couple of 6x8 pocket page albums with his photos from before we were married. Photos of him and his HS friends, first car, fast food job, etc. So I would love some inspiration from those of you who have done something like this! Comment with links to your projects (digital, hybrid, pocket page, traditional, any!) and if you know of any masculine collections, please share! TIA
Look for blues, browns, greys, and greens. Look for non-flower embellishments. Look for word art (or make your own with things like cool dude, Oh Man, hot rod, etc.). Use strong lines in your layout; angles, etc. to suggest ruggedness. Most of the content I use comes from a retired designer that was not at the TLP so I don't have anything to share. I created a Senior year album for my son, where I journalled my thoughts each week on what was going on in his life. I kept a simple white background through out the album with black text. Most pages included a picture with paint splatters, wire, word art, etc. I'll look through my albums and see if I have any examples with TLP content. I don't have anything to share, but I noticed I tend to use lots of layered paper, buttons, and arrows along with the word art.
The Memory Pocket Monthly section has a Foundation section that is all neutrals with the pockets and elements, etc. I know there are male kits. I'll have to look later.
@BevG That is really great advice. Thank you so much! That gave me quite a bit to consider and take into account. I'm definitely doing white backgrounds with black text and will incorporate the lines you noted. Thanks again! @carilyne, I'll look into that kit. Thanks!
Here are a couple I did. Content is from retired designer. Single photo template by Fiddle Dee Dee (TLP). Other template by Pixel2Pages. p.s. I forgot to turn off my page trim lines - the white dash around the edges. That is not part of the pages.
My favorite boy kits off the top of my head (not looking at my stash) are a blue/brown one from Little Butterfly Wings Hello Handsome , Rad Lad by Just Jaimee/Mommy ish collab. But I'm not sure if those fit your style. Here are a few of mine. I have a toddler boy, and a husband. These are specifically pocket page but could be some ideas: There are papers and elements for this one as well. And look up hobbies or activities he did and you might find more. I know there is more than this.
Oh! How did I forget that quirky heart one!?! I've used that several times also. Goofy Wedding Boys by klee73010 posted Jun 5, 2015 at 11:13 PM Also storyteller asher and Kenner from last year's storyteller... great boy colors. Hunter and Bryce too.
Pretty much my entire gallery is male. I haven't set out to do your project yet. Well, technically I did it in paper, but I hate it, so I'm scanning and redoing his memory book. At first glance, Reed doesn't look masculine, but it really is: This page I actually made with Kristin Aagard's tennis kit. I love the colors, and think it would work great for a high schooler too: I love orange with my male pages, and this kit is great for teen boys: There are papers and journal cards too. I'm not afraid of flowers on a guy page, I just avoid the really girly ones, or make them small.
I haven't done that many page on my husband, but a couple I've done (not here) had very neutral backgrounds and then the photo in sepia with one part of it in color (selective coloring). I also like the color scheme of black, white, tan and red. Dramatic and manly.
@bestcee I didn't even think of Reed as manly till you said it. *sigh* too many drool worthy things in this store. @cookingmylife that is a fantastic color way for masculinity! I'd probably switch the red to accent only, but navy or deep blue... yummm
