Welcome to the March Photography Challenge! Let's focus on composition this month, specifically - Leading Lines. Leading lines can provide an easy path for the eye to follow through an image. Generally, they are used to draw the viewer's eye to a specific part of the photograph - it may be the main subject of your photo or even a vanishing point in the distance. They can also be used to create depth in a photo and even offer a sense of direction or motion. We find these lines both in nature and in the man-made world. Perhaps the most common examples of leading lines are roads, but there are so many others. Consider fences, boardwalks, bridges, rows of trees, rivers, hallways, columns, power lines...you get the idea. Here are a few examples of photos that use leading lines. The bridge here draws your eye toward the girls on either side and then right on across the river. Here's another example in which the ropes lead the eye upward to my daughter on her way up the wall. In this photo we have the path and the actual line of horses offering a leading line that draws the eye to the direction of travel and disappears around the corner. Leading lines don't always have to be straight. There is plenty of helpful information on the web related to using leading lines in your photo composition. Hopefully, these few examples of mine will give you an idea of what we are looking for. Your challenge is to scrap a photo that uses leading lines. If you want to have more than one photo on the page, that's fine. Just be sure that one of them uses leading lines. Here's my page: Hopefully my leading lines serve to draw your eye to my daughter, as well as to highlight her love of reading. Can't wait to see your pages using leading lines! As Always: Your page must contain at least 75% Lilypad product. Your page should be posted to the Lilypad Gallery and then linked to the February Challenge Layouts thread so it can be tracked, and to this thread. The Lilypad uses a percent system for our challenges; the number of challenges you participate in determines the store discount you will receive at the end of the month: 2 challenges = 10% off 4 challenges = 20% off 6 challenges = 30% off If you complete 7 challenges, you will receive a coupon for 30% off, plus you will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate from the Lilypad! The first seven challenges will be posted on the first of the month; the eighth challenge is the BYOC challenge, which is posted on BYOC release day. Each page counts for one challenge (you cannot use one layout for multiple challenges).
Here is my page! Interestingly, I already tend to make photos with those leading lines. I guess I like how it looks. There I saw this notice board telling me there were exams taken place. Immediately I knew I obviously wasn't going to have class here. Class room change. Ugh..
We just studied leading lines in my photography group last month so I have LOTS of photos. This is one of my favorites.
I wanted to do a page about the life and passing of Billy Graham. Being a Charlotte suburb-ite, all the news is about him right now. There were a few photos from CLT that had the lead lines, so hopefully I accomplished both tasks.
