Laptop Suggestions

I am in the market for a new laptop (PC). I have been saving up for quite some time, so I have a decent budget for one. I like to keep my photos and my finished layouts on my laptop, but am fine with storing supplies on an EHD. My current laptop struggles with PS and LR being open at the same time (it is about 5 years old).
What are your suggestions for my new laptop? Thank you in advance

What other specific items do you want? (Like I wanted to have 17" screen).

^^That's what I have too. I love it! Actually Teri, I talk about it in the thread Jenn mentioned, so I won't go into detail here. But it's still serving me well!

I have a used HP Envy that I bought from a guy in school who wanted to switch to MAC and only used the computer for a few months. My luck! I got it cheap and it is a workhorse. I keep it at our trailer in the summer. I've been using it for a few yrs and no problems except for snapping off one of the keyboard pieces so I'll have to bring it in soon to get a new keyboard put in but that's not very expensive. Mine doesn't have much storage so I keep digi stuff on an EHD. I have found it to be very reliable.

Is this the only problem you have with it? If nothing else is wrong, you might be able to upgrade the RAM and keep using it for another year. I know 5 years is ancient in computer time, but RAM upgrades are usually under $80.

No, it locks up quite a bit now and sometimes the screen just goes a little crazy (like it is scrolling through everything that is open). We plan on keeping this one and just having internet and office on it for the kiddos to use for school work since they are starting to need computer access more and more for school. It has actually plugged along longer than I thought it would, I started having real issues with it last year, so I started saving money then so that I would be ready when it really became a problem. It is starting to show more problems, so I want to get a new laptop before it totally crashes on me.

I have an Asus N550J laptop with the IPS (in-plane switching) HD screen with 1TB hard drive and 8 GB RAM. It's about 2 years old now. I run PS CC and LR CC on it as well as store most of my RAW and JPG images on it (with backup to EHD). I specifically bought it so I could calibrate the monitor for photo editing. My old laptop did not have a good screen for photo editing. I've been pleased with it. My brand choice had always been Dell. I'm not too keen on HP as I've had extensive experience with it at work and had issues.
