Happy July everyone!! I'm so excited to get to peer pressure you all into my style. For this month, the theme is white space... but i don't just mean empty space.... literal white space. I love making pages without any background paper, everything really gets a chance to pop. So that is your challenge for this month, no background paper = a white background. (You can fill up the space as much as you like, just don't put a background page in there. There are plenty of creative ways to use all those yummy papers still, I know you'll be able to do it!) Here is some inspiration to get you going: (you can also check out my gallery, i've been doing white backgrounds for a while) Please remember the monthly challenge rules: Your page must contain at least 75% Lilypad product. Your page should be posted to the Lilypad Gallery and then linked to the Challenge Layouts thread so it can be tracked, and to this thread. The Lilypad uses a percent system for our challenges; the number of challenges you participate in determines the store discount you will receive at the end of the month: 2 challenges = 10% off 4 challenges = 20% off 6 challenges = 30% off If you complete 7 challenges, you will receive a coupon for 30% off, plus you will be entered to win a guest spot on the Lilypad Creative Team! The first seven challenges will be posted on the first of the month; the eighth challenge is the BYOC challenge, which is posted on BYOC release day. Each page counts for one challenge (you cannot use one layout for multiple challenges). Now, show me how you Embrace the openness.
I love this idea!! I accidentally do this sometimes. I'll finish a complex LO thinking, "I'll just find a pp to go with it later." And then I export it to JPEG and realize I have forgotten a BG paper. By that time, I'm like, "forget it!" I've have seriously always liked the look... what I meant to say is: Yes, I love doing this too, Heather. Totally on purpose.
layouts without a background paper are my favorites! @Kate could tell . great challenge Heather, thank you!
Here is my page. It was very difficult to resist the urge to put a background paper on this! At least I could still use paints and overlays!
A little trick I have learned for white space backgrounds like this for viewing in gallery is to "stroke" a black border around the bottom layer - very small and slight, so that you can see the boundaries of the LO. Hope that makes sense! I generally just do this for the save for web version and then I undo it and save my LO again regularly for JPG. Just wanted to share in case anyone wanted to try it! My eye personally always needs to see some sort of border to view it, which you can do when printed obviously, but can't always achieve digitally, so this technique helps it to not be "never-ending"!
