Job interview

So sorry to hear that... As I read through, I was hoping and praying for you! Keep your head up and something will fall right into your lap <3

I just saw this. I'm so sorry you didn't get that job. Believe me, I know how disappointing that can be. I pray that you find a job that will be able to utilize all your qualifications and experience. Sometimes I want to say, "I know I don't have that exact experience, but I know I can quickly learn." When I was unemployed almost 2 years ago due to a liquidation of the company I worked for, I couldn't apply for many jobs because they wanted experience in trial presentation software, which I didn't have. A recruiter told me I had everything that was needed for one particular job and then some, except for that software. She said she already knew that the attorney was not willing to hire anyone, no matter how qualified they were, if they didn't have that software experience, because the previous paralegal didn't have that experience and could never catch on. She said she still would try, she did, and the attorney said no.

@littlekiwi do you have temp agencies there? Sometimes getting in with a temp job leads to permanent. Also what about placement where you went to school? I would think they would have placement policies or assistance to help you get placed after spending money at their school / college for their programs.. Good luck!

@cfile there is temp agencies but as i'm on a medically tested benefit that's virtually impossible to get onto in the first place i'm only looking for permant full time work so that I don't have to worry about financial help when the temp contract ends. As far as placement help from college, they help in terms of support to find work (cover letters, CV's, interview prep) but not with job offers.

Biggest problem i'm running into is while I'm passionate about the disability sector, have links within the sector, have a relevant degree, I have no relevant experience.

So sorry it's taking so long. It will happen but in the meantime I know that feeling of being on hold and it sucks. xx

I'm sorry, Jennifer. This is really hard. But don't give up. When the time is right it will happen for you.

Jennifer, it sucks, I am so sorry. Hopefully you can get something soon and finally gain the experience they are looking for so badly.

Is it possible to go and do some volunteer work while you're looking for a job, so to get the experience? I know it depends on the sector and your personal situation, but it helped me back when I was unemployed. I worked for 3 months for no pay but I did keep my unemployment benefits, and after those 3 months they hired me. I only stayed there for 6 months but that was the "experience" I needed to put me in the market. I still use it in my current job.
I hope something new appears for you soon!

I know you are trying so hard and feeling frustrated, but it will happen.

Have you thought about addressing your lack of experience head on in the interview? Something to the effect of, "I recognize that I don't have experience, but I can promise you that I will be the hardest working and most passionate employee you have."

From what I understand, this really is a calling and life's work for you, so do your best to convey that commitment. It matters!!

@berniek I'm already volunteering as a
committee member in the sector so honestly something will come up. I've just applied for a customer service role with the same company but different location.

@lmccandless if I knew it was a huge issue during the interviews I would address it then but I'm not given any clue until I get the thanks for applying and interviewing but....phone call or email. Right now im going based on degree + 20 years lived experience + networks/knowledge I've gained over the past few years.

Oh dear, so sorry. I am in the same boat right now with trying to find a job and hear, you are very qualified, but. . .I agree with the others. Keep trying, do some volunteer experience if that is what they are looking for, and address it head on interviews in the future. You got this!!
