Where are you from? It is such an innocuous question. For some the answer is easy and obvious. For others, it is much more nuanced. Our immediate family mentions three places. DH grew up on a farm in rural Iowa, I grew up in Omaha, and my daughters would name Newton, Iowa as their home town. So where is home to you? A person in the United States is expected to move 11.4 times in his/her lifetime. That seems like a lot of moves, but I counted my moves, spanning 7 decades, and I have lived in at least 14 homes. Did you move around a lot? Do people where you grew up move frequently? What is the “thing” that says you are home? I thought it would be fun memory keeping for MOC 11-Coming Home, to pinpoint our home/s on a map. For my example I mapped homes that my husband and I shared in the United States. I used Lynn Grieveson’s No Place Like Home kit and Scrapping with Liz’s USA Cut Outs. This fun layout from Lynn Grieveson shows her homes in Australia. The requirements for this challenge: 1. include at least one photo, element, or clip art of a dwelling on your one- or two-page layout. You do NOT have to have photos of your actual home. 2. incorporate a map into your page. In addition to the specific instructions above, your page must be a new page in order to count for the Month of Challenges. Your page must be posted in three places: 1. Uploaded to the TLP Gallery (not an outside hosting site). 2. Posted in your page thread you created in the MOC Layouts Folder. You should have one post per completed challenge page. If you complete all 31 challenges, your thread should contain 31 posts. Please do not comment in the participants’ page threads so we can keep them clean. 3. Posted in this thread. People can comment here if they wish. Your page must contain Lilypad product (pages with photos and font only do not count). Product from other stores will not be allowed for MOC; your pages must contain 100% Lilypad product (current or retired product from designers or guest designers presently selling at The Lilypad). Thanks for playing along!!
*** Reserved for questions *** Just a quick question, does anyone have a resource for free to use maps? Thanks! Most internet browsers have a map option, so you can either do a screen grab from that or just google what you're looking for! I hope that helps. (@SeattleSheri ) You can try openstreetmap.org
I live this quote too. Dorothy: “If I ever go looking for my heart’s desire again, I won’t look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn’t there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right? – The Wizard of Oz
Love your page, Christa! Hubster spent teen years in L.I.- Nesconset and Smithtown, and Northport. Such a different vibe there- love to visit.
Know those towns well Northport is the next town over from my home town... He probably knows Deer Park Ave (Racing magazines always note drag racing on 231!)
So, I took a snapshot of an actual map of Missouri and I also took a screen shot of the maps app which shows a favorite walking trail just down the road from where I live. My home actually shows up on the screen shot too.
