Do you guys know if you have limits on your internet usage monthly? We have Comcast and have a data limit of 1200 GB per month. That seems like an insane amount of data, but starting about in May of this year, we started going over our limit pretty regularly, so we've been having to pay $30 extra per month for unlimited data.

We did hit the limits during the pandemic when I was working from home and the kids were doing school from home, but it started happening again when my oldest son came home from college most recently. Both of my boys are gamers, so they download large (50-100GB) games quite frequently, they also stream music and have a discord channel open at all times to talk to their friends when they are online. We also have been streaming most of our TV using data too, and I think when we got a 4k TV last year, that boosted the amount we are using. Add to that my digiscrap downloads and then music I stream too, I guess it all adds up fast! I just feel like the data amount allowed should be increased since every year that passes, new things use data, and larger amounts all the time too.

So, how many of you have noticed an increase in data usage or have hit limits with your provider?

We don't have any issues with internet limits, but we don't have a TV, so don't know how much impact that would have.

We get unlimited internet at home and on cells. We have Verizon - DH perk - for discounts, free movie channels and for higher speeds for free. (We can't (shouldn't) have any other service, as DH works for VZ, :giggle)

We did have to watch our internet usage at one point on our cells, and it was always my kids, lol... then me. DH was on his the least. But that was just cell phones, and not at home. I have also found that once a line goes over, then then put them on the slower speeds rather than the higher speeds.

My first suggestion would be to check around to see if any deals for unlimited internet from competitors. Then once you have that info, call the carrier and explain what is happening. Mention the other deals you found if you think it will help lower your cost.

I got Cox fiber internet when it was first introduced in my neighborhood so I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data. I definitely notice that we use more data over time -- and especially when my adult kids are here. I am afraid to try anything else because I don't want to lose my grandfathered status but I have been thinking about trying Verizon 5G since they have unlimited data for a lot less $ than Cox.

Unlimited data on my work and home internet ... good thing since we don't have cable and stream TV over our home WiFi.

We haven't gone over but we did just get notice that if we do, we will be charged an extra fee.

I don't think we've ever had a data limit for internet, and we've been with 5-6 different companies over the last couple of decades. I have absolutely no clue how much we use.

We used to have a data limit on our cell phone plan so we would have to watch it, mainly when we were traveling and there was no readily available Wi-Fi. We've had unlimited for that as well though for the last couple of years.

Technically we don't have a limit but we do pay more the more we use. This does include our landline phone as well - 0-60gb, 60g-120gb then 120gb+. It's very rare that we use any less than 120gb (mostly me using it I must say). I know once I leave home my mum will completely change plans to a 40gb plan and I'll get unlimited ADSL or Fibre (depends whether where I have has the wiring all done for that or not)

Oh how I wish we had a competitor. Xfinity is pretty much all we have in our little area, unless we wanted to do a satellite or something like that. Blargh! Ha ha! I remember when we used to have the same problem with our phone before they went unlimited too. It was always the kids and I too! :giggle

Yeah, my hubby is the account manage for our internet, so he gets those same warnings and then comes to hunt my youngest son (last one at home) and then me to see what we've been using. He can even check to see which device is the worst and it's ALWAYS my son and his giant game downloads. :giggle It's pretty cool they can show that by device!

We have no different carriers! :( We're in too small of a town I guess. Lol.

I’m of the opinion that the government - the Federal government - should provide internet country wide - from sea to shining sea! I’m not like this for anything else except roads and internet. There is no excuse that every single person in this country should have wi-Fi available for school, job searches, entertainment and church. Once having said that, I’m not sure anyone needs more than 1200 GB, so the $30.00 would be on you, but up to that amount, I feel strongly that our taxes should more than pay for it.
