A few nights ago, while scrapping, I discovered the Finder search function was failing. This is a big deal because I rely on it heavily for scrapping! I've made 3 pages since then and it was very cumbersome and limiting not being able to just search for "ribbon" or "stitch" or "pumpkin" as I usually do. I tried restarting my computer to no avail. And, weirdly, it was only affecting my TLP folder; the search function worked normally in the other folders I checked.

Finally today after finishing my cookie exchange page, I googled "why one folder won't search Finder iMac" and the first result was this, which didn't seem related at first glance, but turned out to work.
Rebuild the Spotlight index on Your Mac https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716
My TLP folder is searchable again.

Yay! I can scrap efficiently again!

But I wish I could understand how it failed in the first place. The only thing different recently is that I upgraded from Catalina to Big Sur on Friday. Can that do weird things like this?

I feel your pain. I recently did a Lightroom update and now my edited pictures look like crap. I'm not sure if I can uninstall an update or not?

I'm sorry! I don't know. If it's Adobe CC, I'm guessing no. But maybe there's a setting to be changed . . . ? I'm rather out of touch with the editing features of LR since I've barely been touching my DSLR for the last couple of years. :(

It is CC and it was an automatic update. Ugh.

The problem came back! I was just adding to my daily gratitude page, and the search function is failing in my TLP folder again! What is happening?!!! :tantrum

So I'm talking to a friend who works for Apple and he says it is a known issue with Big Sur, the newest OS that just came out Friday. Hopefully it will be updated very soon and the problem will be fixed. Meanwhile, I will just have to scrap less -- and less efficiently.

Please dear god keep Big Sur off my iMac! Everything works with Catalina!!! (insert Praying Hands)

btw, I don't use Spotlight. I go to Finder and do the search from there. I almost always want to see the path of the item I'm searching for not just 'get' the item. DH didn't know how to find the path himself. Score one for Mrs. R.

Big Sur has been fine otherwise.
I don't use Spotlight either. I search in Finder too. But they're basically the same search engine and I think that Help article applies to Finder too . . . ?
