to share something new I learned, it’s creating an effect with the help of smart objects. First I’m creating a watercolour effect with the help of filters, I’m on a Mac and PS CC & photos from Unsplash. Feel free to tag me if you have any questions. Make sure the photo is a smart object and apply these filters: 1-Under the artistic filters - dry brush: 10-10-1 2-Under the artistic filters - cut-out: 5-4-1 set to pin-light 3-Filter blur - smart blur: 5px and 100 threshold set to screen 50% 4-Stylize - find edges set to multiply So this is what I learned: with the help of smart objects you can apply this effect on an other photo in just a few steps: Double-click the layer's thumbnail A new tab opens Drag a new photo on top Hit cmd-S or ctrl-S Go back to the main tab The effect is now applied to the new image By saving this effect as a psd file, you can use it over and over... (Edit: I made some screenshots) 100% detail
ooh this looks great Aly.. GOing to try as well! Thank you! Very cool Aly I got the psb and then the photo replacement very cool Thanks again!
I can follow your directions until here: set to pin-light (Do I go out of the filter windows and switch pin light in the regular layers panel? I don't have an option for pin light if I stay in the filters gallery) Filter blur - smart blur: 5px and 100 threshold set to screen 50% (I don't have screen option to set to 50%) Stylize - find edges set to multiply (This makes my photo turn white with just the edges showing) I don't have any of those in my PS CC Mac. Do you close out of the filter window to get those? What did I do wrong?? LOL
Susan, once you apply the filter in The layer panel next to the filter there is an icon there like an fx if you added a style.. click on that.. it brings up the window and you can change the blend mode there.
I think that's what I did. What I was confused about was that the only way I could get to these original filters is to open the filter gallery. I can only do the first two steps until I have to close that out. Then I go to the regular layers panels and I can set it to pin point, but it turns my entire canvas white. I'll see if I can try it a different way.
I think you are almost there, you now need to change the blending mode. I will make some screenshots later today @Pachimac
