I went to Hobby Lobby today, and the big store was nearly empty! No waiting at all, and no one to walk around or wait to move in the aisles. It was surreal. Since we are living in a surreal time and so much of life seems suspended as well as uncertain, a challenge to create a page that reflects the Surrealism genre seems appropriate. Take your mind off the day's events and see what alternate reality or alternate moment you can create! Surrealism is a cultural movement that started in 1917, best known for its visual artworks and writings and the juxtaposition of uncommon imagery. Some are fantastical, some are comical and some are just weird! lol Here are some examples: Guidelines: 1. Make a surreal page. Can be as simple or as detailed as you like. Let yourself take a mini vacation! 2. Use one of the cars provided in this download. You can alter the car in ANY way. Upload your page to the Art Journaling gallery and post it in this thread. Let's see what interesting gems are rattling around in your head!!! Can't wait to see your work!!!
Oh what fun!!! I downloaded all 4 because I can't make up my mind. I'll see which one speaks to me. Thanks for the awesome challenge, Amanda!!
@AJK whose cars did you photograph? We're a 1 car only family so I can't imagine owning all those. Your extraction work is impressive, thank's for sharing.
Aww, @Angela Toucan thank you for even thinking that! BUT all the cars are from Pixabay- with free use license- so have fun!!!!!!
@mcurtt - Awesome! @LynnG - Thank you! @Cherylndesigns You are welcome! I know, the cars are so different- anticipating some fun seeing all the pages! @AnneofAlamo I know, right? Surreal is a bit of an escape into wonderland! Have fun!!
No idea what it means, but I like it and it makes me smile. So there you go.... And now I really am going to mop the floor and do at least one more chore...
I had SO much fun creating this page! I worked on it last night and was giggling over it. It's a lot like some of the goofy dreams I occasionally have. Thanks for the challenge, Amanda!
I'm not sure if I would classify this as surreal, but it was fun to put together. Thanks Amanda! @AJK
I posted mine on Facebook and asked people what they saw. Dad said: a 1948 Chevrolet and beyond that who knows?
Thanks, Amanda @AJK . This was fun!!! I used one of your papers from when I was on your DT. I guess that blue car is pretty popular. With everything happening, I feel sort of like this and ask myself, "Who's driving this car?!"
