Head Lice

Ohmygoodgracious. This is seriously one of my biggest parenting fears. I'm a little cuckoocatchoo about it. So I just ache for you knowing you're dealing with it. What a nightmare. Yugg. SO SO hope your treatments have done the trick, Karen!! Sending good begone! vibes to you!

the thing is, if you get reinfected, and you are doing quite a few things to avoid it... it means somebody who is giving them to you is not being treated. We have had the problem a couple of years back, *I live in Switzerland, and have two girls *75 cm and 90 cm hair... OMG you don't want to mess with that. The problem was, that the one who was spreading it didn't get treated, because everybody was too ashamed to speak up, as if then everyone will know they have nits, until I called the school, and asked to warn the others that there is a problem, and I didn't know in which class either, and they eventually (read about 8 weeks) stopped it, but only after the school bus seats had been desinfected, and after the school received the permission to do the spot checks on the kids' heads with the school nurse... and with all the rules about not touching the school children and suchlike, it was hard... the only way to fight them *lice, and nits which become immune if you use the same medication time and again is to do it with a massive counterattack, which means treating not just your heads, and your house, but everyone at school, kindergarten, bus and swimming club... you get the idea.

thanks for the advice and yes thats the part i cant control Olga even tho ive notified the school and they send out a letter i cant make the other parents treat there children so the cycle starts again

Sara thankyou, its so hard with Gabbi trying to get a 2 year old with long wavy hair to sit there while you go through it with a fine toothed comb daily is no fun for either of us,it was never this bad with the boys i can cope with short hair

Hi. Don't know if this will help or not but it was a miracle for us. DD came home from the fair with lice and I was 6 months preggo so couldn't use pesticides to rid her of it so called the health department. Here is what I was told: Lice is becoming tolerant to alot of the products on the market used to kill them. The lady told me that mayonaise is great for ridding the adult and killing the nits as well. It suffocates them. And perfectly safe since I was pregnant. Grease her hair up generously with mayonaise and pile it all onto top of her head...wrap hair into a plastic grocery bag and tie it...not her face...LOL. Leave on for an hour and then wash out and comb with a real fine comb like a pet comb. I did it along with middle child and my daughter just to be sure and never had a problem since. Was also diligent about cleaning all bedding and such too. Try it...and let me know if it worked for ya!

Treat hair with Nyda, it contains silicone which suffocates lice. It's a 15 min. treatment and works great! It's the no.1 advice here in the Netherlands. When you send your kids to school braid their hair and puts lots of hairspray/gel in it. Comb the hair at least 2 a day if the comb you have is still toon wide, put a gauze over the comb so it combs easier and you can directly see and discard the lice/nits. Nits 2cm or further away from the head are dead. They can be very sticky and hard to get out, but with a special nit foam they can be removed easily. Be sure to keep checking hairs and combing 2 a day for at least 1 week. Good luck!!!

Nyda was the only thing that worked on my daughter's loooooong hair. Leave it in over night after combing out all the nits. It's very oily so it takes a number of shampoos to get the hair clean again.

For what it worth. I am a teacher and just recently had the dreaded nits. My hair is very thick and longish. Colour, hair straighteners and the nit comb. Worked a treat. I combed my hair twice a day in the shower, I coloured my hair as I found out and used the straighteners until I was combing no more live ones out (about 3 days.) I continues combing for a fortnight as that is the length of the life cycle. Finally the tea tree oil in the conditioner during the peak season. For us in New Zealand it is from about October to March.

I think im losing the battle!

All of us keep getting them the last week apart from my husband (he is bald) ive tried conditioner and nit comb numerous times,Hedrin spray from the chemist and today ive used the Hedrin wash in and leave for at least 15 minutes and i still manage to comb the dam things out after it being left on for at least 2 hours

Does anyone else have any suggestions cause im beginning to lose the will to live i dont know which of the kids is bringing it home but we just keep getting re infected

HELP!

Somehow, about a year ago, I got lice. Only me. I'm the only person that (literally) never leaves the house. And I have LOTS of hair. The only thing that finally helped was a boiling hot blow out. You need a blow dryer that gets pretty hot and you need to be able to suffer through it but the hot air, directly over the scalp in sections, dehydrates the lice and the eggs and "melts" the glue.

Then I hopped in the shower and did the lice shampoo. While I was in there Brett threw everything from my work couch and our bed into the dryer.

Good luck xoxoxo

Some people also swear Suave Coconut conditioner but *shrug*

I got lice when I was in the hospital. It was the worst. Good to know I was not well and then, I had to deal with that. Anyway, none of the chemical stuff worked. I ended up having to buy a Robi Comb. It is an electronic comb a friend recommended and it was a lifesaver. I will never use the chemicals again. It zaps them dead. This is what it looks like. I found one at the drugstore near me. I actually found the generic version of it. Hope you are winning the battle by now.
