Finally after weeks of avoiding getting my lab tests done, I finally did them today. I live smack bang between two labs so there was no excuse for it to take me 4 1/2 weeks to get there. Decided that while I can occasionally suck it up and have “good” days I really have to be functioning on more than about 20 or 30% for when I am working next month. At the moment if I’m away for any length of time I end up paying for it for at least the next 24-48 hours afterwards. Pretty sure it will show I’m at least iron deficient if not anaemic & potentially Vitamin B12 deficient too (to be honest anything else will be a surprise) but now I have potentially wait until Monday to get the results and hope that they are bad enough to get a funded infusion rather than 3 times a week injections.

I'm glad you went in. It's better to get the results and find a solution and get yourself back to feeling better sooner rather than later. I hope you get the results back fast!

I agree with Karen: glad you went so you can have the info you need to start feeling better. Fingers crossed you get the results before Monday!

Glad you went in and hope you get results that have you on your way to being healthier. I am always low iron and B12 as well. I haven't had the injections yet, just supplements, and I can sure tell when I haven't been on them.

I’m the same, I can tell when I’m in bad shape - the fatigue is just constant.

Some results have come back today and are all good - not insulin resistant, not vit b12 deficient, cholesterol while still a bit high has come down from over a year ago. Really just waiting for the iron results now but i’m pretty sure that will be the one, if not i’m truly puzzled.

My dr rang me this afternoon and explained all my results - there was good news, everything looks good and i’m not iron deficient, the bad news is we still don’t know why I’m so dang fatigued. He has put in a referral to the hospital for a sleep study to rule any sleep issues out but we may never fully figure it out.

Huh... so not what you thought at all, but that's good that all your tests so far came back with good results. Hopefully they will find a simple solution to help with your fatigue.

Maybe this sleep study will unveil news. How long before you can get it done? btw. if you have never done a sleep study the least you do is sleep. They keep waking you up all night long. LOL!!!

I’ve had a sleep test before as I was diagnosed with sleep apnea during my teens. As far as when it is, the first thing is I’m not even sure and neither is my dr that the hospital will even see me as I don’t show the “normal” type of daytime sleepiness that the pre referral test asks about for a sleep study (my fatigue and tiredness is more constant and there for I have afternoon naps rather than doing something and falling asleep doing it). If my referral is accepted then who knows how long I’ll wait (at the same public hospital my mum has been waiting a year today and counting to get surgery for her heart when it was going to be done between 3-6 months)

Oh yes it’s definitely good news and worth celebrating that all is right with what was tested. To put it in context, with ferritin in NZ anything under 20 is bad news. 8 years ago my ferritin was 7 - was hospitalised for 3 weeks and had to have a blood transfusion, end of 2017 it was 12 and I had to have 3 iron injections a week for 6 months so for it to be 49 I’m over the moon (I have lower ferritin anyway because of previous surgery and malabsorption so it’s never going to be amazing without intervention)

I am also going to be seeing my optometrist for my very very overdue eye exam next week (I’m about 12-18 months overdue as it was on the when I get a job and can afford it I’ll do it pile) incase my fatigue is actually eye strain - wouldn’t surprise me as I feel it mostly from the eyes up rather than my whole body is tired/fatigued

Wow, what a roller coaster, Jennifer! I'm glad you got good results but ugh on the not knowing what is causing the issues! Hugs! DH was really sick a number of years ago, and it was super hard not knowing. Once it was all figured out, it was much easier to deal with! I wish you all the answers to be on your road to recovery!

Also... I must have missed a post! Working next month?! That's fantastic, what job did you end up getting! Congrats!

oh Jenn, I know only too well the way you feel.... been there, as a matter of fact quiet often in the past 3 years.... but I am so so glad you did go. It is always better to know and take action, stay strong...if you feel like talking, give us a shout and I ll try to be here for you asap... I know during all my worse times on falling apart for health reasons so many of you have been here for me, would love to be able to help even if miles and miles away.
All the best, you have all my heart on good results for the texts.
    Huge huge hugggzzz

pleasant surprise, my referral for a sleep study has been accepted and is an at home test. Have to ring the hospital tomorrow to arrange the first appointment for the fitting of the testing equipment for the at home test then I’ll have the appointment with the specialist 2-3 months later once the results are interpreted.
