So I lost my mind in the last week or two and decided to sign up for my first half marathon. And it's not just the half. I'm completing it as part of a 'hat trick,' 5k and 10k on Saturday and half on Sunday. And now I signed up for my first marathon a month later!!! What have I done? Anyone have any marathon tips???
Wowzers...way to go!!! Good luck - it will be all worth it in the end! Just ran my first 10k, and it is such a sense of accomplishment! I will be doing my first half marathon in Feb. next year!
Awesome! I can't wait to hear how it goes! I just read the Runners World guide to Marathon and Half Marathon training and there's a lot of good information in there. Stuff I had no idea about and I've been running off and on since high school.
awesome!!! a few to check out for plans are Hal Higdon or Jeff Galloway - both have similiar training plans if you need them.
When is it? You might want to do a couple back to back longish runs. The hard part is going to be doing the half marathon on tired legs. So you might want to practice that by doing 5 Saturday / 10 Sunday a couple times.
Also, I would plan on running the 10k easy. If you try to race it, you're gonna be sorry on Sunday. LOL
My goal is just simply to finish. I don't care about times. I just need to cross that finish line. 3 times.
I was just reading about those backtoback races in the new RW yesterday! I am seriously impressed!!! Have my first 10k coming up next month, and am excited, but could not imagine doing a back to back, well, MAYBE a 5k/10K, but followed by a half?! yikes! you GO! can't wait to hear all about it!
It's doable. I did the Goofy this year. Half on Saturday, Full on Sunday. It was hard, but we ran SUPER slow for the half, so it was ok. I wasn't worried about my time, so that gave me permission to walk some of the full.
