Since my DD is a single mom and baby-daddy doesn't pay his fair share of child support, she receives some assistance from WIC. I'm not sure if you all have that in your state, but it is basically a program that gives families milk, cereal, eggs and cheese so they ensure kids are getting those things.
Anyway, DD had an appointment with the WIC people the other day, and they basically told her that Kennedy is fat. At 2. And that she needs to "restrict his diet" and have it as a goal to keep him from gaining any more weight between now and July.
Seriously?
The kid is 34 pounds and 36 inches tall. He doesn't have an extra ounce of fat on him (except maybe his cheeks). He is totally muscle. He is strong enough that if I put my hands out, he can lift himself from the floor using just his arm/back muscles. He runs around all day, every day, and he has so much energy the people at the Little Gym are worn out by him.
Kennedy doesn't get any fast food. We don't give him cookies or sweets unless you count blueberries and bananas. He doesn't drink pop and has limited juice, so it isn't like he's gorging on anything that is bad for him.
She was totally upset and feels like she is a bad mom. She also feels like they are telling her that because she is overweight and they must think that she's going to make him overweight.
The pediatrician has never had a concern about his weight, so I told her to go by what he says and to stop feeling bad. I know that they just have their charts to go by and can't individualize their spiel, but it scares me to think that some parents might really take it to an extreme.
This is the new "fat"

trust your pedi and don't worry.
As moms we have so much to worry about - she certainly didn't need to hear that! I think he looks perfectly healthy.
