Eye Doc

I go every year, I’ve had glasses since I was 8 years old. I started wearing contacts when I was 15 and that’s what I usually wear, except for late at night and early morning when my contacts aren’t in. Thankfully my contacts don’t bother me at all! My vision is terrible, -10 in one eye and -9 in the other.
Hey me too! That's almost exactly my prescription! Not a great club to be in but at least contacts have come a long way!

I haven't read through the other replies, but hopefully allergy eye drops work for your daughter! It's a common symptom this time of year. I know they don't work for everyone, but worth a try if she hasn't already looked into it!

I had an appointment yesterday, but had to reschedule to next week due to unexpected travel. I usually go in every 1-2 years. Our insurance plan only covers glasses/contacts every two years. Throughout my life, I've always had very good vision (20/10), but with age, my reading vision has plummeted. I really struggle with having to constantly manage having glasses since I was so blessed for most of my life. Becuase it's just my reading vision, there is no surgery (other than getting your lenses replaced, akin to cataract surgery -- which is more invasive (and not covered by insurance) than I want to pursue, given that I don't have cataracts.

When’s the last time you went to the eye doc?
Ummmmm.....I'm well overdue. It's definitely been more than 5 years, I might even say 7 now. Reason being, every time I go in, I end up spending $$$ on new glasses....we're talking $400-600 & they always seem to muck up my testing (I've gone from being nearsighted for like 23 years to farsighted for one test/pair of glasses and back to nearsighted the next. Didn't think much of it at the time but then after the next test thought this is all a bit strange. The worst one was when I was shopping around for glasses I liked & of course each optometry practice wanted to redo the testing for free and I got three or four wildly different prescriptions within about a 2 week period. After that I always made sure either my mum or grandmother were with me in case they pulled that stunt again. For the last couple of times I've stuck to a practice that only has two branches but they aren't local....they're better but not great. I'm thinking I might actually next time try and get an appointment at the local optometry school instead and also see if it's cheaper to just replace the lenses in one of the two or three pairs of old glasses I have - the frames are still fine
Do you wear contacts or glasses?
Glasses since about 2 years old, though I'm lazy at home and don't wear them as often as I should (all the time)
I’m sorry you’ve had so much trouble with eye doctors! They love to overcharge me too so I buy glasses online now.

I’ve worn glasses since fourth grade (about 70 years ago)and I still remember my diagnosis: 15/40 compared to 20/20. I’m not even sure they measure vision that way anymore. Like many of you, I switched to contact lenses in my teens and wore them for about ten years, but eventually decided they were more trouble than they were worth and went back to glasses.

About five years ago, I had cataract surgery, and now I rarely need glasses unless the print is very small or the lighting is poor. It’s been incredibly freeing. I haven’t been back to the eye doctor since then, though…probably time to schedule a visit!
I’m glad surgery helped so much! What a blessing!

I really neeeed to go. I went about 3 yrs ago and was going to go to my son's school while he was there (for the last 4 yrs) because it was free for immediate family and we don't have vision coverage, but alas I never made it to plan ahead and make an appt etc.
Now he's graduating in about 3 wks, so I'll go to him! LOL which I need to do desperately.
I have glasses for when I drive at night.

Thank you Sheri. My daughter is doing one round of steroid drops then we’ll start the allergy ones.

I’m betting I need reading glasses too but I haven’t made an appointment yet.

Sending lots of good thoughts! I've had to use them before and they were very effective for me! Fingers crossed the same is true for your daughter!
