I have a Canon Rebel t4i, using 50mm 1.8 lens. I am so frustrated with my lack of CRISP FOCUS in the eyes consistently, it's a crap shoot,. I shoot 50 pics of the same thing hoping ONE is perfectly in focus. Any tips on this??? Maybe I am a naturally shaky person or something. Just so FRUSTRATED! Taking a class now and I am so happy with learning manual but it's not improving my crispness one bit :/
Can you post a sample with your settings? Usually the issue with newer photographers is a slow shutter speed - most people are too afraid to raise their ISO for fear of noise that they leave their SS too slow and then end up with camera shake or motion blur instead. But without seeing a sample and the settings it is really hard to say for certain. Also, the 50mm 1.8 lens is not a particularly sharp lens, especially wide open. What aperture do you typically shoot at? Also keep in mind that shooting wide open gives you a *really* small plane of focus...so if your SS is okay, then you might just have your aperture too wide. Let's see a sample.
Do you focus then recompose? I find that I get better results choosing the focal point if I've I've got my 50 wide open as I'm not moving the camera once I've focused. It is all down to that sliver of a focus that you get! Love the bokeh but it can be pretty tough to nail the focus . I also find my kids won't stay still!
Maybe that's it. Maybe I need to practice with a smaller aperture. Yes... I do love that 1.8 blur... <3<3<3
Many times when you're just learning manual settings, if your focus is a little soft it's because you've got your shutter speed too slow. Learning manual is hard and often just takes a lot of oractice. I know it's frustrating - hang in there!
