How much on your computer is taken up by scrapping stuff? Do you keep your kits archived/zipped/compressed?

I have this black box, a Terabyte External HardDrive(ehd) with all my scrapstuff..layouts as psds until printed then they go bye bye..but I keep the jpg, and save for page.
I keep all my scrapping stuff all organized by store, and designer and I purge it often...

This is exactly what I did...until I killed my EHD last month. {sob} I keep the stuff I crazy love on my computer, but I had years worth of stuff living on my EHD. I'm still in mourning, especially because there are few designers who aren't designing anymore, and while I might not still use their stuff, it made me happy to know it was there.

I keep my layouts as psd files until they're printed as well, but I print pretty regularly so fortunately I didn't lose any layouts or pictures with my great loss.

So right now I'm trying to figure out what I can get rid of since I'm not planning on slowing down on the adding of scrap supplies & don't have an EHD to back it up to anymore.

Joel - how did u kill ur EHD - sorry if that's a basic qn but did ur EHD crash??! (I'm sorry if that's the case) I ask because I am all dependent on my EHD - I have no backup if that crashes!!! Would burning stuff in DVDs help as a backup for backup? I don't want to pay extra for online backup...(I know it's completely worth it but I just can't spend any extra... I am anyways spending more on my supplies every month!!)

My photos and my own designs are on the HD in my computer, and also backed up to an EHD and an online backup. My stash of other kits and such are just on the EHD and the cloud. There's a little bit of other stuff on the EHD to, but that's the biggest part of it. The EHD has 1.44 out of 1.8 TB filled. (Hmmm... guess I should look at cleaning that up or adding another.) My photos and layouts on my main HD take up 313 GB, and my design stuff takes up 579 GB. I'm really surprised it's not more, since with the digital photos and all, that's about 13 years worth of stuff, and I rarely delete anything.

I used to keep zip files of everything, but I never go into those, and it seems like the zips are more easily corruptible (losing everything in the zip vs. just an individual file), so I've stopped keeping those. The backup I use (CrashPlan), does do some sort of compression/data-deduplication thing, so those aren't as big as they would be if I just copied them directly.

I keep the stuff I use each week for Project Life (which is a quickly growing folder), my recent downloads --I try to keep them on my computer until I use them and then move over to my external hard drive, and then a Stash folder with my alphas, frames, stamps, stitches (basically element packs) --all of that is on my computer. Everything else I store on my EHD--my photos and my extensive scrapbooking supplies--in order to keep space relatively available on my computer's hard drive.

I also use backblaze to back up my whole computer! $5 a month is worth it to my heart!

You should! Something about you says if it's good for Anne, it's good for you!

For now everything is on my computer. Photos always and scrap stuff I just back up the zips on DVD, on Crash Plan AND on a EHD because I had 1 big bad memory and it still hurt to think about it so I save, save, save!!
Once the zips are backed-up on DVDs and EHD I erase from my computer.
A friend of mind told me to consider EHDs as perishable goods so that's why I double back up on DVDs.
I think Crash Plan is cheaper! I signed up for the 4 years plan and I don't think it's 5$ per month. But a backing service is fundamental I think. I swore to myself "no more loosing everything"!!!
