Hello everyone and happy DYD kick off! :tree I don't know about you, but I have all kinds of grand ideas in my head for things I'd like to make as gifts for Christmas, but then time goes whooooshing by and I run out of time. :giggle In October, one of our amazing hybrid Pollys, Robin (@mocamom ), posted about a fun little surprise birthday box that she had created and I immediately thought that this would be super fun to make for my 2 teenage nephews for Christmas. They don't want as much anymore, so I've resorted to giving them cash or gift cards, but I thought this could be a super fun way to present those gifts! Robin generously shared a video tutorial on how to make this fun box HERE. See below for a few photos of me making my own Christmas version, followed by my finished product.

The best part of this project is that you can make so many great variations using a different kit and could make this for any holiday too! What would you like to find hiding in one of these fun Surprise Boxes?
(On that note check out the BONUS HYBRID CHALLENGE at the end of this post. Don't worry it's a super easy challenge! :D )

For the container box and the pop out boxes of this project you'll want to use at least 80lb cardstock (200 gsm). The decorations can be added on top with any paper weight that you'd like. You'll also need one rubber band for each pop out box.

Here is a package of cardstock on Amazon for reference HERE.
Here's a rubber band size on Amazon for reference HERE.
I also created some printable templates to make this project even easier. You can download them HERE.

Simple run down of steps:
1. Open templates and add your favorite papers
2. Print templates (1 Inner Tray, 1 Out Box, 2 Pop Up Box pieces)
3. Cut out printed pieces
4. Score and fold box pieces
5. Add rubber band
6. Glue box pieces together (I used Alene's Tacky Glue)
7. Decorate outer box

1. Glue 2 pieces together
2. Tuck rubber band
3. Glue little flaps to edges
3.5 (yellow lines). Cross the rubber band and tuck around the opposite side
4. Glue last flap to opposite side.

BONUS HYBRID CHALLENGE
Now that you've seen how fun it can be to create something hybrid out of your digi-stash, I'm challenging you to take a look in our hybrid section of the forum and check out the pile of amazing hybrid projects our Pollys have been making this year. My challenge to you is to find one hybrid project that you love and make a holiday version of that project. There are TN and pocket scrapbook pages, bookmarks, cards, planner pages, art journaling pages, holiday decorations and more! You could also look in the Hybrid Gallery for ideas.

Challenge Rules:
1. Create ANY holiday hybrid project inspired by a project found here.
2. That's it! :D

Layouts must contain a minimum of 50% TLP products to comply with our gallery standards. Any templates used count for a total of 15%.
You must post your layout in the TLP gallery and then post in this thread with a link to the gallery image of your page.

This challenge closes on Monday, November 20th at 11:59pm EST. A random entry will win a $5 coupon to The Lilypad store.
NOTE: this is a week longer than all other DYD challenges since hybrid projects take a little more time. :agree

Beautiful boxes dear Karen. I really love hybrid projects, but by the moment I don't have printer, so it's impossible for me to do a hybrid project by now, so everything that I'm doing is just digital.

I love this so much Karen! What a gorgeous cluster! I hope I have time to play along here soon.

This is so fun Karen! I'm loving all the little bits you've added!

Sooo, I am not a fan of hybrid projects (too much work!!!), but I just love all that cute stuff in Nicole's @NBK-Design
"Holly & Pine", and when I went downtown earlier this week, I thought it would be cool to have them printed at a shop, because I don't buy color ink at home, and all the print shops near me are just plain awful. Still I am not totally satisfied with the printing quality (the colors seem a bit faded). Plus I'm using my new phone :happydance2, and I'm not used to it yet.
Anyway, I was inspired by Holiday Ornaments (hybrid) by @dawnmarch

Physical supplies include glue gun, cords, lace, pom poms, tassels, and paperclips for the candy canes! I saw it online and I had to try it. Since I haven't decorated for Christmas yet, I didn't know where to hang it, so I just used blu-tack and attached it on the side of a bookcase.
