for the last 28 days we have been feeding very tiny Caterpillars, watching them grow and get fatter, 8 days ago they all hung upside down and turned into chrysalides, well yesterday 9 emerged into lovely butterflies and today the 10th popped out, can not wait to release them. The children have loved watching them and showing photos of them to their class frineds at school. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10154535662898488.1073741962.676193487&type=1&l=231bcc354f
My daughter is 6 years old, she had been watching an advert on the tv from insect lore about them and kept asking for them, so I said to her if she made sure she did her chores she could have some, so for 4 weeks, she made her, opened her curtains and blinds, made sure she put all her toys away and help set the dinner table, she has even spoken to them every morning and after school
Gorgeous photos! My kids each did this in school when they were younger. Every child was allowed to bring their chrysalids home with them for release. My son is older than my daughter ... so when he brought his home, she was feeling left out and didn't want to wait until it was her turn. I found a butterfly kit at the store and we did it at home here as well. They loved it. I know I have the pictures somewhere.
What a cool thing to do! Both my kids did this at school and it was such an exciting project for them!
that is so amazing! I had no idea that you could by a butterfly kit! I need to check if I could get something like that here too.. it would be awesome to do with kids
OH how cool and Donna, those photos are amazing! What a neat thing to share with your kids. I'm fascinated by the process of caterpillar to butterfly!
That's so cool! I didn't know they sell a kit! Must look into that. I love seeing kids experience the power of nature. It's so amazing.
Here is a source for raising Painted Lady butterflies that we have used in the past. http://butterfly-lady.com/caterpillar-kits/
