What do you have and what do you want?

I'm in the market for a new camera and lens.
My DH likes the Canon 50D and I'm not complaining too much. I've heard the 50mm/f1.4 is a good choice and the 24 - 70mm/f2.8 L is awesome. What do you like to use.

I have 2 kids (5 and 2) who do not sit still for pictures and are involved in some sports so ideally I'd like to be able to take some portrait type, some candid, and some action. I can only afford 1 lens. Which would you buy?

I have a Nikon D90 - I've always been a Nikon girl, and this camera is just perfect for me. It's got enough bells and whistles to keep me occupied, but not enough to overwhelm me.

I currently have a Sigma 18-200mm lens, and a Nikkor 50mm 1.8. I didn't want to spend the cash on the 1.4! LOL! The Tamron 28-75mm is on my wish list, and I've considered a 28-300mm, but I'm not sure if the extra 100mm will really give me that much more range

Oh, and in answer to your question about one lens, it really depends on where you will be shooting. If I had to give up all my lenses but one, I'd stick with either the 18-200 or the 28-300, simply because the majority of my shots are of the dogs in a field. I need the zoom capability more than I need the low light lenses

    What i have:
    Nikon d700 and d80
    60mm macro, 15mm fish, 28-105 zoom

    what i want:
    more prime lenses!

this is such a tough one. even though you can get a faster shot with the prime, you may not be in the right position. using your zoom will be much faster than getting up and walking to the other side of the room. when i shoot my cousin's kids i always use a zoom. there is no getting my positing right with a prime. but a second lens most def! one day.

    hope that helps.

I have the Canon D40 with the Tamron 28-75 lens, and also the 50mm/1.8 lens. I usually have my Tamron lens on - seems to be the easiest for me to use, but only because there is no zoom on the 50 and sometimes I like the ability to zoom in and out! I do not by any means know all the bells and whistles my camera has, but I do know it automatically takes way better pictures than my old canon point and shoot.

I have a Nikon D90, too, and the lenses I use are the Nikon 18-200 and the 50mm 1.8. If I'm going anywhere I use the 18-200. As much as I love the 50mm 1.8 for use at home and for portrait shots, I find it really limiting when I'm trying to take pictures of more than one person at a time or needing to take a close shot. I want to try another prime lens (35mm).

i have a nikon d200 and love it.

i have 4 lenses (18-70mm, 70-300mm, 18-200mm, 85mm) but usually have the 85 or the 18-200 stuck on there. i need to pick up a 50 and would love a wide-angle one of these days.

AMY! Please take a picture at 200mm and another at 300mm, so I can see the distance difference!

I have a Nikon D90 and a 50mm as well as a Tamron F2.8 18-200. I never take the 50mm off the camera and now that I'm shooting in manual, I hate the 18-200. I have a 35mm and an 85mm on my wish list.

I have the Canon EOS 5DII and love it!
Most of the times I have my EF24-105L lens on it, but I also have the EF70-300.
I also have the Speedlite 580, but I don't use it a lot. The quality with higher ISO is just great with this camera. I still have to find out how it works, but I can go to ISO 25600!

On my wishlist: EF70-200L F2.8IS or the EF100-400L as replacement for my EF70-300.
That EF70-300 was amazing on my EOS 20D, but I miss some quality with it on the 5DII.

    I have a Canon 20D with 2 lenses: 17-85 F4.5 and a 50mm F1.4
For shots of my kids indoors I LOVE my 50mm - it shoots great in low light at F1.4
But when we go on vacation and I only want one lens along I'd probably take the 17-85mm ....

    I have a Nikon D70s .. I love this camera

I have two lenses, even the Tamron AF 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3 lens
    and my new Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1:1.4 G

    Shootings for my children I'll take the AF-S 50mm 1:1.4 G, I find the
intensity class just for trips and then I take the AF 18-200mm
