Northwest Illinois this morning … the low for today is minus 31 so this isn't even the worst of it, I'm afraid! Crazy! Our house is creaking and popping … praying we don't lose power! Anyone else in a DEEP freeze this morning?

Yikes, that is cold! We are expecting a low of 4 tonight with windchills of -20, and I am trying not to complain about our 18 this morning because I know what you all are dealing with. It's crazy! I read that some place will be colder than Antarctica and the North Pole. Stay safe and warm, Jill!!

We are too! We are Michigan and besides schools being closed my hubby works for the State of Michigan and they also have closed all offices. We have a local school that posted this video which I think is AWESOME! it is close to where my son and his wife live.

Our area will be cold and windy, but nothing like what the center of this polar vortex is getting! EEK!

Stay warm and stay safe, everyone!

It's 13°F here this morning with wind chills down to 0°F. Definitely not as cold as y'all up north, but colder than I like it.

I cannot even imagine cold like that!!! Stay inside, warm, and safe !!!

Unfortunately, I have to work (I thought they would have closed our distribution center, but they didn't) and I am covering for the 2nd shift supervisor tonight as he's on vacation - so I'll be there until midnight! :-(

There have been parents trying to get our superintendent to do something similar; in his last phone call, he said, "no dance or song but maybe in the future". LOL

I think it's the coldest right now that is predicted for us -- windchill -31 degF. School was cancelled today, no announcement yet for tomorrow, although I've heard that a couple of colleges north of me have already called off both Wednesday and Thursday. So far, it hasn't seemed too bad (I've taken the dog out twice this morning when it was only -10 or -12) but I've only been outside less than five minutes at a time and I was out of the wind. (The dog doesn't want to be out either; normally I have to strongly coax him to come in when I can't be out long.)

My son's girlfriend goes to MSU and they are cancelled and I think UM is too. My son goes to WCC (the community collage) And their classes are cancel if they are after 5:00pm which all of his are as he works full time too.

I heard U of M and GVSU (Grand Valley State University) from one of the teachers at the music studio where my kids have lessons. (Well, one had lessons yesterday; the other two were cancelled, but my youngest has the owner as a teacher, so he is always there. :))

I remember one year the snow storm was so bad that all the schools and local colleges were closed, and the radio (back in the day!) started just announcing that my school was the only one left open. (GMI then, Kettering University now.) I went, but it was a waste of time and effort because so many of the professors didn't come in and most of my classes were cancelled anyway.

Yep! We're in a deep freeze now too. The temp is -8°F right now with the windchill it feels like -32°F!!! Brrrrr!!!!!

Right now I'm at -8 with a wind chill of -35. And, temps are supposed to go even lower to between -11 and -13 by mid-afternoon.

I'm feeling really bad for the USPS workers in my town. Evidently even though USPS suspended delivery for zip codes in Ohio, my local USPS is still working... Because there was no "community pushback" like there was in the larger cities in Ohio. Schools did close today as have a few businesses in town. Some businesses are having their employees come in and they are doing maintenance type of stuff that they don't have a chance to get done when customers are coming in and out all day long.

It's currently -2 and feels like -24 here in Michigan where I am

Yuck, so sorry. I can only imagine the cold like that.
We are sweltering through summer heat - with more to come in February - wish I could send you some.

oh boy! I'm in the positives! High 35. Tonight 4. Tomorrow is 19. I'm glad to be on the plus side at least! Stay warm folks!

Oh boy, I don’t miss those below zero days back in Iowa and Nebraska. Back in the day, we would have snow days where we would not have school but there was no such thing as a cold day. If it was 20 degrees below zero we still had to walk the mile to school (uphill both ways) and of course girls could only wear dresses to school, not slacks. Actually, when you hit zero, the cold all felt the same...-5, -15, it didn’t matter; it was all brutal. When there was a break in the January weather cold front and the temperature would hit 25, you thought it was wonderful.

Today in Seattle it is 50. Stay warm you Midwesteners and cool off you Australians.

It was minus 27 when I woke up. It is now a balmy minus 20 with a wind chill of minus 46. I had to get out for a few minutes to feed the birds, but I had a plan and brought the feeders inside and filled them. It all involved using a bucket to carry them around so the seed wouldn't spill. I wore a ski mask, DH's hat with flaps, a long down coat, knee-high insulated boots, and heavy mittens. It is trash day tomorrow, so unless we get notified that there is a one day delay, I will be hauling the trash down the driveway out to the road later this afternoon.
