@bellbird 's recipe on cooking disasters got me thinking about baking! I love to bake in the fall and I love breakfast baking in particular. I really want to try my hand at scones! does anyone have a scone recipe they love? or any other breakfast baked goods also - would folks be interested in a recipe share? we can make recipe cards and swap them? I'd be glad to "run" that if someone could tell me how we could host the files for the participants!
Oh yes this is a great time of year for baking! We do have something planned in the works, so keep your eyes peeled. (cough cough DSD is coming)
I love scones, they look super difficult to bake, so of course I've never tried them. My favorite was a lavender and rosemary scone from Magnolia Sweets in Omaha. YUMMY OH!
Tell me what scones are to you first. Because I've learned they are very different depending on where you have them! Scones to me are closer to a fry bread. Because that's what the Scone restaurant served when I was a kid.
@bestcee This is what I know as scone. I didn't know there were different things. Mind you, add sugar, flour and butter and I AM IN... call it whatever you want! LOL!!!
We make British style scones, I think some parts of the US call them biscuits -the Country Women's Association is known for their recipe here -on phone ATM but will check back later with a picture!
OH I have a great scone recipe- except it's out at the lakehouse! We made them a lot for breakfast all summer. SO good! It's a base recipe- you can add in anything you want- my personal fave are huckleberries, but the kids liked blackberries/raspberries/blueberry versions we did too! Next time we're out there I will have to take a pic of it & share it here!
ME TOO! I think hubby would kill me if I mention these scones one more time. LOL!!!! Now, I want to come visit you! LOL!!! Please, do!!!!
Well now you guys just got me even MORE in the mood for SCONES that I still don't know how to BAKE! lol... I suppose I can hit the internet lol. And I'm referring to exactly what @Dalis posted! yummmm.
I would be up for a recipe exchange! Here is a "cheater" monkey bread recipe that I served to 2 friends last weekend....they loved it: Easy Cinnabon Monkey Bread Ingredients 3 cans Cinnabon Cinnamon Rolls dough 1 c. sugar 1 tbsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. butter 1/2 c. brown sugar 2 tbsp. honey (or you could use Cinnabon syrup if you can get your hands on it) Instructions Preheat oven to 400º. Grease a bundt pan well, and set aside. Combine cinnamon and sugar in a large zip to bag. Open the cans of cinnamon roll dough. Cut each cinnamon roll in 2 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place about half of them into the zip top bag. Shake to coat the dough. Place the coated dough balls in the bundt pan. Place the remaining dough balls into the bag and repeat coating. Place all of the dough in the bundt pan. In a small bowl, microwave the butter, brown sugar, and honey for 1 minute. Stir well to dissolve the sugar. Pour over the dough balls in the bundt pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until dough on the outside is brown and the center feels “set” when you lightly push on it. Allow to stand for 5 minutes and then invert onto a plate. Drizzle Cinnabon frosting over top before serving.
There is a small lavender farm near us that has a festival/open house twice a year. Here is their recipe. I have not made these (what am I waiting for????). Favorite Lavender Scones 1 teaspoon chopped or pulsed dried culinary lavender florets 1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup sugar 1 cup sour cream Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. In a medium bowl, mix the dry ingredients together. Add sour cream and stir until the dry ingredients are damp. (20 seconds) Dough is very light. Turn onto a floured surface and knead very gently, 8 to 10 times. Roll or pat into a round shape that is 1/2 to 3/4 inches thick. Flour the spatula and cut into 4 pie shaped pieces. Flour spatula again and gently lift each scone onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Honey Lavender Butter 1 stick softened butter 4 teaspoons (or gradually add to taste) chopped or pulsed dried culinary lavender florets 4 teaspoons local honey Mix together and spread on a warm scone!
@bellbird My scones look like the ones shown by @Dalis and that's how they looked when I made them in England. Pat out the round dough and cut into wedges like a pie but do not separate until after baking. I'll submit one (when I find it) that I avoid baking and thus eating but they go fast. Cream cheese chocolate brownies.
I’m always up for a recipe challenge. The best scone (well, the only scone) I’ve eaten was in a restaurant in the basement of a church in Trafalgar Square. It was more like a crypt, since we kept walking over (I walked around when I could!) graves.
