Here we go! This will be our third selection for 2019. Like I've been doing the last couple of times, I am posting the next few months (February -May) all at once, so we can all get these books on hold at our libraries in time. The book we will be reading for April 2019 is Becoming by Michelle Obama. Please label spoilers or even type them in white like I just did right here(highlight that blank space) so that a person has to highlight it to read it.
I gave this book to my sister as a christmas gift. She's happy about it so far! I will borrow it from her when we're farther in the year.
This is one of the few books that I actually bought. >> I loved reading this book, probably because I think she and her family are pretty awesome. I loved learning about her life from the very beginning. Her love story with Barack and then the kids coming. Learning that she was a reluctant politician's wife. Just a great story. Not boastful or full of themselves - just out to help as many people as they could.<<
I really enjoyed this one! I loved learning about Obama's childhood and where she grew up. Her insights in Barack's upbringing were super interesting to me as I didn't know any of this prior to reading the book. One thing that sort of bothered me, not enough to dislike the book or anything, but frustrated me, was the way Michelle talks about going to Princeton like that's a thing everybody does. Or she talks about landing this super prestigious job in Chicago, like that's a thing everybody does. And so on with all of the amazing events in her life and her husband's, like these things just HAPPENED to them. I think she really sells herself short, maybe in an effort to not sound conceited or condescending? Own your hard work and accomplishments! End.
I finally finished this! I only had to check it out four or five times with long waits in between haha >>>Reading this book made me want to read more books about political leaders. I loved learning about her life from the very beginning. I especially liked looking through the pictures included in the middle of the book to put faces with names.<<<
