This one isn't out yet - I got it as an ARC through Edelweiss - and I'm only about half way thought, but I am REALLY enjoying it! (it actually makes me think a bit of Erin Morgenstern and the Night Circus - @FarrahJobling @bellbird @Tree City @bcgal00 @jenn mccabe ). Not at all preachy or religious, but it's such an interesting premise if you like fantasy novels (which I actually don't, normally, but I was intrigued by this one).

this does sound good! I'm finishing up the Nickel Boys today for my book club so I'm ready for something new and maybe a bit less depressing than the Nickel Boys... thanks for the recommendation =)

You had me at Night Circus. :) Hopefully our digital library gets it soon after it's available (sometimes our digital library is a bit slow)

Our library doesn't have it yet but I'll keep my eyes open for it. Sounds good.

Sounds like a winner to me, it's the 'start of a new series' bit that stops me getting way too excited & dying to get stuck in to it but it's one to add to my 'want to read'list for sure - it sounds a bit like The Librarians movie series & I loved them too

I will say, I'm not a fan of series either, and I'm not sure how they will do this as a series. At this point, 50% in, as long as they bring it to completion, I can see it being a stand-alone.

Okay - update now that I've finished it - I LOVED this. I'm really stingy with my 5-star ratings, but this was 5 stars for me. It is easily a great stand alone book, but I'm actually looking forward to the potential for a series!
