In 2019, 3 of my friends and I planned a city trip to Barcelona together that should last 5 days. We live in different cities, so we discussed the whole thing long before in a WhatsApp group. First we had to find an appointment. That wasn't easy as we all work and we also had to coordinate with colleagues in our respective jobs. I then took over booking the flights and the hotel after we had chosen them together.

In the first week of April 2019 the time had come. We drove together to the airport in Prague and took an early flight to spend the most of the day in Barcelona. Once there, we picked up our subway tickets, which we had also pre-ordered and now we could start. First we checked in at the Acta CITY47 hotel, brought our luggage to our room and then took the underground to the city center.

The first way led us to the sea. How beautiful! Now it actually felt like a vacation and we strolled along the beach promenade and let the wind blow around our noses. Here we were able to gather first impressions of the fascinating city. Later we looked for a restaurant where we ate a delicious paella.

The next day we first visited La Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulalia. Located on Pla de la Seu in the Barri Gotic district, it is dedicated to Saint Eulalia. You could see all of Barcelona from the roof. Next to the cathedral is a 14th century monastery. 13 geese live in the central courtyard. Each goose represents a year in the life of the martyr Santa Eulalia. Then we strolled through the Gothic Quarter to La Rambla, Barcelona's famous promenade. It is one of the landmarks of Barcelona. The 1.3 km long street stretches from Placa Catalunya, probably the most central traffic junction in Barcelona, to the port.

Now we visited the Mercat de la Barcelona. This is the most famous market here and you can buy anything here! From there we went to Placa Reial, the cozy square near Las Ramblas. After we had dinner there in a small tapas bar, the day ended.

The 3rd day took us to the Sagrada Familia, the symbol of Barcelona. That was an unforgettable experience! We were enchanted by the magnificent facades, the architecture, which has been thought through to the smallest detail, and the fascinating play of light inside the basilica. It has been under construction since 1882 and is due to be completed in 2026, on the 100th anniversary of the death of its architect Antonio Gaudi. We then visited the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and the Casa Mila, the last residential building built by Antonio Gaudi. He then built exclusively on the Sagrada Familia.

The fourth day begins and on this day we drive to the exhibition grounds and the National Palace. We visited the Poble Espanyol, the Spanish village. A huge open-air museum, which reflects the whole diversity of Spain. From Montjuic, Barcelona's local mountain, you have a magnificent view of the city, the port and the sea. In the evening there is again paella and sangria to say goodbye, because the next day we have to fly home again. 5 wonderful days are coming to an end. We were really excited about Barcelona and we really want to come back again!
