I've been playing with Lynn Grieveson's Messy Ink Galore brushes collection this week with my Affinity software. All of Lynn's Brushes and Masks sets come with the individual stamps, brushes, and masks as separate png files, as well as them being provided in the Photoshop abr format. I scrapbook with the Affinity Suite, and have put a little tutorial together on how to use the png files in Affinity Photo, Designer and or Publisher. The steps are the same in all 3 programs. For this tutorial I've used items from the Messy Marks Brushes Set by Lynn Grieveson. These can be purchased as part of the Messy Ink Galore collection, or as an individual set. Choose your background paper(s). I have used the Not Quite White Background Papers by Lynn Grieveson. Lay your first brush (use the .png files) onto the background. I have used Messy Marks 9 Resize if needed Here is how to add colour to your stamp. Select the stamp Open the Layer Effects Dialog Click the check box next to Colour Overlay Select Colour Overlay Click on the Colour Box - it will be black initially. This will open up the colour selection box inside the dialog. You could use the sliders to choose a colour. I prefer to pick a colour from my layout or photo. For this example I've created a set of coloured squares on my background to use instead of a photo. Click on the eye dropper, and drag over to the colour you want to use. Your chosen colour should now be visible in the dot next to the eye dropper. Click on it to select and colour your brush. I have repeated the process above using 3 other brushes and colours. I decided to give the Messy Marks 24 brush a bit of a glittery look. To do this I moved the Noise Slider to the right. Here's a layout I've created using this technique. Clicking on the image will take you to a larger version in the gallery with full credits.
Great tutorial, Angela, for the Affinity program users.. thank you so much for doing this. Great job!!!
This is fabulous @Angela Toucan thanks for putting this together for Affinity users. @AnneofAlamo can you please add this to the alphabetical tutorial list?
Thanks for the great tutorial Angela! I have so much more to learn with Affinity, I think that will be one of my goals for 2021
Thanks @Angela Toucan The color picker has been giving me a headache. It never occurred to me that I had to drag it. I just clicked on it and then clicked on my color and nothing ever happened, . I kept thinking "what is wrong with that color picker??". Tried out the dragging and, of course, it worked like a charm. Just that once I dragged and the color was in the little circle I had to click on the circle again to actually give my item the color overlay. But that is just a detail. I am happy now. edit: I tried it in Designer, not in Photo
Thank you for the tutorial, I look forward to trying it out. Often color picker gives me grief. I see pse users having intricate colouring almost shading on som of the Mandela’s is there a way to do that? I use Affinity photo on iPad
The Gradient Effect Overlay (just below the Colour Overlay in the dialog). I'll put a tutorial together shortly.
