What do you mean by patterned paper "mats"? Could I count chevron pieces (from the Photos & Chevrons templates)? Do any paper pieces count or do they have to be rectangles or under photos? Thanks in advance for the clarification.

So this is my first 36 in 36 - I can choose which of these items to use as long as it all adds up to 36?

correct, you choose the quantity of each item in the list, since you can use zero, it becomes fairly flexible - just make sure the list totals to 36; items not in the list do not count towards the 36

mats can be any basic share you choose (square, rectangular, round, oval, triangle, diamond, etc.); they are smaller than the layout; can be behind a photo or not. they should not be elements - if they are part of the template design you are most likely safe to consider a mat

Here's mine - it's always a fun challenge to get to exactly 36 items! I ended up with:

    2 Photos
    4 Patterned-paper Mats
    8 Rows of Stitches
    6 Buttons-Brads (excludes centers of flowers-bursts)
    0 Star Elements
    5 Staples
8 Spots of Journaling/Words (includes title)
3 Ribbons (Flat, Curly, Bow, Ric Rac)

That was more difficult than I thought! The stitching is something I hope I don't get disqualified for. When I put it on the page, I thought it was one element made up of 4 unique stitched borders, but I noticed as I was posting the page that the red ones don't connect like the green ones do, making them actually 4 unique ones. oops.

I wish I was a fast scrapper! I'm super slow and thought there was a quick deadline so I started early :)
