COLLAB: All the Feels Part Two

    by Lilypad Collabs https://the-lilypad.com/store/-COLLAB-All-the-Feels-Part-Two.html

Our home was built in 1960 by Mr. & Mrs. House. It's a three bedroom ranch on 3/4 acres. The property is long, and goes to the river bank. This use to be called the ribbon farms.

A distinguishing feature of early Detroit and other French settlements in North America is the way farmland was divided into long, narrow strips commonly referred to as ribbon farms. In Metropolitan Detroit, these farms were established on both sides of the Detroit, Rouge, and Clinton Rivers, as well as on Conner's Creek and the shores of Lake St. Clair. They are found elsewhere in Michigan, in Monroe, Saint Clair, Cheboygan, Mackinac and Chippewa Counties.

Dividing riverfront and lakeshore land in this way had two important advantages. First, it provided access to the water, the primary mode of transportation, to the maximum number of families. Second, it placed each farmhouse at a minimum distance from one another and from the fort at the center of the settlement. Visitors to early Detroit noted that the continuous row of houses along the river created the impression that the settlement was larger than it really was.

The My parent-in-laws bought this home in 1989 from Mr. House. They moved in after they retired 1990. My father-in-law passed away March 3rd, 2008. We moved in in June of 2015 so my mother-in-law could remain in her home. Over the past 30 my husband has done all repairs, and remodeling to the home. We are adding a room on in the spring. The photo’s clearly show the "then" and "now" of our home. Thanks Mr. House for leaving the before photo when you left.

I can't believe I made it! This past month has been an experience I will never forget. Thank you to @lmccandless and all the Pollys and everyone who was scrapping alongside me! It feels very appropriate to end with a layout about my journey as a digital scrapbooker.

And that's a wrap! Whew, that month just FLEW by. This year I was able to stay up on the challenges, the last couple I was WAYYYY behind but still managed to make it! Thanks for hosting these great challenges each year! I get so much accomplished and learn so much! I always plan to continue doing challenges during the months, but never seem to get them done. You would think it would be cake after going through MOC. Maybe this year I will!!

If I need month and day added, please let me know. My dates were more generalized than specific so I just did year.

    Journaling reads:
In 2005, he was deployed for 7 months. It was supposed to be for 5 months but with our usual luck, he was extended an extra couple of months. Back then, I had never been alone and on my own for any amount of time. Now, looking back at that time, I learned so much. I hadn’t been alone for more than a week or so until last June. He went to England for work. 6 weeks turned into 7 months. I know now that I can survive on my own, but I don’t like it one bit. I have been with him since I was 18 years old. We are soulmates. He’s important in my daily life to help me function and be happy. I don’t like being alone. He had to go back to England for another year, so we went together. Now that I’m working for myself, it’s given me freedom to travel with him when I can. We are fortunate. His company is providing pretty well for both of us during this difficult time. What I’ve learned is that if we can be together, we should.
