ok, so I logged in this morning and saw the word technique - and totally cringed. But, thank you to @Genniejoy the technique portion only took me 30 minutes! The most work was actually done in cutting and wanding and erasing! I'm not sure how often I might use this, but I have to admit I really think it looks great!

Love this with basketball! I almost chose basketball too, but my backgrounds were too busy with other kids!

I lasso'd my subject but when I use the fill - content aware the subject is still there. What am I doing wrong. I made 2 copies of my photo and used the bottom one just like the instructions.

If you hide the top copy, you should be able to see your blank page. It may be because the copy with the subject still in it is above it. Don't keep it hidden, but you can hide it just to see the blank background.

I wish that there was a tutorial for PSE, but this is what I came up with.

I never would have tried this on my own! I don't have content aware fill, so I couldn't take the subject out of the background. But I liked the liked the effect of the white dissolve, so I went that way. After I was done with the page, I thought I'd try to go back and make the dissolve "see through" to the background, but discovered I'd flattened the image before I saved it so I lost the layers! So, it's staying with the white dissolve now. But this was a fun technique, and not too hard. I think the hardest part is getting a good photo.

Yay for figuring out your workaround! Love it! Finding the photo was the hardest for me too and I'm still not entirely happy with the one I chose. I'm looking forward to playing with it some more!

Very cool technique. Thanks for the tutorial! I thought it might work well on a blurry photo, and then giving it a texture to cover more blur helped even more. Thanks again!

This is my favorite part of MOC ... learning new techniques! I watch a lot of Youtube videos, but I think most of my PS skills have been learned through this forum. Thanks for another great technique lesson!

I'm in the same situation and very frustrated. I've tried 3 times and my results look awful. One looked like it was a picture that had been vandalized with paint being splattered on it!
I'll give it another try now that I've had time to be away from it for awhile. The technique isn't my problem. It's the results.

    1-6-18 - Technical Challenge - Dispersion
    1. Create a layout with dispersion technique
    2. Must scrap the page

This is my nephew - he plays high school soccer.
I watched a video on how to do this in PSE11 and I think I got it...I wanted it to look like he was kicking up dirt with the dispersion.
