Thank you to those that joined me today, and the challenge is open until 3 PM EDT June 18th.

  1. Create a large photo mask using a combination of at least 1 mask and 1 transfer element, alternatively use 2 or more transfers. For ease group your mask layers, alternatively you can merge them. Grouping allows for easier adjustments to fit the photo. Add a large photo to your new mask — add above the mask group and clip to the mask.
  2. Add a background paper below your mask — color of the background paper will affect any blend modes you might apply
  3. Use this as the base for your layout.
  4. Experiment with blend modes on the mask grouping — results will vary based on the background paper and your photo. You might play more and duplicate the mask and photo layers and apply a different blend mode. (1 - Depending on the transfers/masks you use, you might choose to apply different blending modes on different mask layers vs the group. 2 - If the mask is leaving a "hole" in your photo in an undesirable spot, use a paint brush on that mask layer to fill it in)
  5. Add any other photos or embellishments as desired to complete your page
  6. Upload to the Lilypad Gallery, add designer tags and slow scrap tag.
    • Copy the BB Code and paste in this forum thread
    • Deadline is 3 PM EDT on June 18th
    • We’ll have a random scrap cash prize for one lucky participant
For those of you that were watching, this does have the Valencia paper blended (darker color mode) on top of the gray paper from Building.
The bottom photo mask has color burn and the duplicate photomask has hard light.

Gallery version: I did change the blending mode on the Valencia paper to linear burn in the gallery version:

Here is my page somewhat still in progress, here. I will post later in the gallery. I'm using a mix of goodies from today's SOSN:
Lynn Grieveseson's Darcy Template Set and Valencia Kit
Rachel Jefferies Stay Curious
Rachel & Lynn's Hear My Voice Building

Sorry I missed you live LIsa!

I wanted to try this technique but didn't have a lot of time to embellish tonight so I kept it simple! I had fun adding the date transfer to the big mask and filling it all in with my photo. I used a linear burn.

We missed you, but thanks for playing anyway.

If anyone is thinking about trying this out, there is still time -- and I may allow late entries because I will be out cleaning and/or painting at the official cut off time --- so make it 6 pm EDT if you're sitting on the fence about timing.

Thank you for the chat yesterday! I'm glad I could finish my page for this challenge 'cause I love playing with blending on my layouts, even if rarely on photos, I always do that creating a new bg paper using 2+ papers.
I'm sorry I didn't write the credits in the gallery, I promise I'll do that as soon as I'm back home!, but I have to go, I'm already late but I wanted to upload my finished layout! Thank you again!

edit:
I added the credits in the gallery :agree
And I wanted to explain my blendings: (I used a mask from the template and 2 transfers from Rachel Jefferies' pack) I changed the mask layer to luminosity to give a b/w effect 'cause I wanted to highlight the fall colors, and set both transfers layers to linear light. That's all :-)
