Welcome to the June Monthly Muse! Our focus for the month is one of the best things in the world…. ART SUPPLIES! As lovers of art journaling and mixed media, it is only natural we love the products used to make our works of art: paper, paint, gesso, fabric bits, washi tape, inky marks, doodles, art dolls, stitching, ephemera, and So. Much. More. Each week in the month of June, we will emphasize certain art supplies routinely used in art journaling and mixed media art. To get us started, Week 1 is all about things that fasten. This includes: -tape -washi -stitches -staples -paper clips -clamps -clothes pins -eyelets -brads -string -metal bits (like a buckle) -fasteners -pins -buttons -flair (because they look like brads) For week one, I ask that you emphasize the use of “things that fasten” in your work of art. What you choose to use it up to you. But since this is a challenge, I ask that you use at least three DIFFERENT categories of things that fasten. For example, you could mix washi + staples + stitches OR mix brads + paper clips + tape. How many of each item you use is up to you – the minimal challenge is at least three unique items. And you are welcome to use more! I feel I have a pretty good list above, but if I did not list something you would like to use, give @ArmyGrl a tag and I’ll be happy to add to the list. Here are some visuals of fasteners: I hope you can see from the Journal Cards and Alpha, just how open-ended this challenge is! The journal cards are full of washi and the alpha contains stitches. So feel free to get creative and think outside the box. Monthly Muse Challenge Rules and Guidelines: 1. You must create a new layout for this challenge. You may create any style (i.e., clean and simple, artsy, pocket style etc.), with or without a photo. Create any size page you wish. The Art Muse is for everyone. Have FUN! 2. Be sure to follow gallery guidelines when posting (at least 50% current TLP product). 3. Please post your layout to the Art Journaling Gallery HERE by Midnight July 2nd. And post your layout in this thread by copying the "Share BB Code" to the right of your gallery image. Each post, regardless of the week posted in the month of June earns you one chance to win a $5 coupon to the TLP store. Thus, 1 Muse = 1 chance to win 2 Muses = 2 chances to win 3 Muses = 3 chances to win 4 Muses = 4 chances to win 4. June Week 1: use at least three unique fasteners in your layout. I went with a traditional styled layout for this challenge. Towards the top left, I used a clamp, flower with button, and two staples. I used an alpha with stitching. And, I used two pieces of digital washi.
Great challenge Lisa, I am always looking for some sort of fastener to use on my digital pages, a throwback to my paper scrapping I suppose, thinking everything is going to slide off my page if I don't fasten it down!!!
Thank you so much for the Muse Lisa. I've had so much fun putting this digital collage together, I almost couldn't stop. But I need to make dinner, so now is time to stop right? This was the perfect way to wind down after some very stressful paperwork. I found an awesome art doll template pack in the store that is perfect to express how I'm feeling about life right now - Supermoms by GS Creations. For the fasteners: built up the background with washi tape and stitches Added a few staples. used Kim Jensen's torn tape alpha for the main word in the word art. did I add enough buttons? there's a bow on the art doll, and a shaped paper clip on her tote bag. finished with a push-pin
Sorry for the stress paperwork, Angela! But happy you found pleasure in creating! Yep, life gets in the way of art. Haha! But it also gives us lots of stuff to make art about!
This was super fun! I've loved seeing everyone's pages! So inspiring! Here is mine... I've used staples, tape, stitching, buttons and brad prongs.
Fun challenge! I started playing again this month and I love the prompts. My entry will be a bit last minute, because I've used an NBK-Design collection (btw, it is amazing!) that will be released on the 30th...
Better late then never............. slowly catching up with all of these fab June challenges!! I used the following fasteners to hold my work down : - stitching - staples - safety pin oh, and "digital glue" on the lady cutout!
