We have books picked through September 2022, but I figured people might have some great summer reads and I'd love to have some great book suggestions for our next round of books. We have a fun informal book club here at The Lilypad and it's open to anyone and everyone who likes to read! For this thread we are looking for suggestions for what to read together over the next four months. Everyone can suggest one book for now because when I do the voting poll, I can only have 10 selections in the poll. I will leave this thread open until September 10th or until we get 10 suggestions. Then I will open up a voting poll. Once we vote, I'll start a new thread for each of the four top books... one per month, for the next four months starting in October. You can see the complete list of our old picks in our Master Reading List. You can read the books in any order and at any time. If you want to chat about the books, just reply to that thread. Easy peasy! So.... what should we read together next? 1. The Push by Ashley Audrain 2. Verity by Colleen Hoover 3. Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh 4. Blood Cruise by Mats Strandberg 5. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt 6. Thank you for Listening by Julia Whelan 7. When the Muse Speaks by Kiana Donae 8. A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson 9. The Last Green Valley by Mark Sullivan 10. Nightcrawling by Leila Mottley
I recently read The Push by Ashley Audrain for my IRL book club and it was SO good! I'm adding that to the list.
I never get to read the book at the same time, but I did enjoy The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Verity, and Daughters of the Lake.... 7 Husbands https://www.amazon.com/Seven-Husbands-Evelyn-Hugo-Novel/dp/1501139231 Verity https://www.amazon.com/Verity-Colle...&s=books&sprefix=verity,stripbooks,168&sr=1-1 Daughters https://www.amazon.com/Daughters-La...swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1659985415&sr=1-1
I've read the first two too! I also purchased the third one already, but haven't read it. Any one of those your favorite? I'm trying to do one suggestion per person. If you pick one, I'll add it to the list and then I can add the other ones too if we need more suggestions by the deadline. @jk703
I've got a mystery/thriller recommendation. Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh. It's about a serial killer is on the jury of one of the crimes he's committed. LOVE that premise. That's all I need to know. It's book 4 of a series, but I'm told you do not have to read them in order. Here's the link to the goodreads summary: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36217425-thirteen
That does sound interesting. off to check it out - thanks! Oh... it's a series, loves those! I will start with No1!
Great suggestions so far! @plumdumpling I have that book on my to-read list already, but I have no recollection of adding it. Ha ha! It sounds fascinating!
If you like horror, this book is a good one: Blood Cruise Scene is one of the cruise ships going between Sweden and Finland. Basically, the boat take a 24 hr of circling on the Baltic Sea, and it's party all night. Then you can buy tax free booze, so that you can get drunk at home as well. LOL It's horror, people die, and it's a gory story, but it's also a glimpse of Sweden. I loved it, and I've been meaning to re read it. Mats Strandberg is one of my favorite authors. He creates such interesting characters,
I will vote for Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt https://www.amazon.com/Remarkably-B...swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1660140589&sr=8-1 Description: After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova. Ever the detective, Marcellus deduces what happened the night Tova’s son disappeared. And now Marcellus must use every trick his old invertebrate body can muster to unearth the truth for her before it’s too late.
Thank you for Listening by Julia Whelan is on my to-read list. She's actually my favorite audio book narrator & her last book I read was great! I just added this one to my TBR list too! Sounds great!
Remarkably Bright Creatures was SO good! Feel good fiction for sure. I've heard great things about Thank You for Listening. She is such a great audiobook narrator.
I totally agree! I loved this book AND we did pick it in our last batch. You have great taste... it's the book for this month even. https://the-lilypad.com/forum/threads/august-2022-book-club-project-hail-mary.83364/
I think I should join you guys in this reading group because I did not know that! I can’t wait to see what the choices are so I can read them.
We'd love to have you join us! There's a ton of old threads you can look through too. Here's the master list if you're interested. What else have you read recently and loved?
