This was great! I also loved the fact that my iphone had the portrait setting which helped get that dark background and fantastic effect. It also helped that I am making something with black fabric at the moment so I happened to have it handy to use! Thanks for the fun challenge!
We were able to get this picture on our cruise- love how we stand out with the black background!! Thanks for the challenge.
Hi, I just replaced our Christmas candle whilst shopping yesterday. Story in credits. Used the iphone whatever mode was suggested earlier in the thread, using light from another mobile phone held above the candle to highlight more of the red wax. It was positioned in a corner of a dark wood dresser and lit early evening for the photos. I really wasn't looking forward to this challenge at all, but it ended up being the perfect way to record the stories surrounding the candle.
This was a lot of fun. I used my black winter coat as my backdrop. At first I had the exposure lighter because I liked the shadows the coral and shells were throwing but I didn't like the way the texture of my coat looked, so I went really dark for a lot of contrast. I had a lot of trouble getting sharp focus with my phone, though, so that was frustrating.
I did the best I could with an uncooperative cat!! But it came out well, I think. Thanks for the challenge!
I am glad there is no proof of me lying on the kitchen floor to steady my camera whilst trying to photograph my winter clippings against the dark kitchen cabinet.
If you are unable to shoot a new image, do you have an image with a fairly dark background but great light on the subject. You can darken the background in PSE or Photoshop by duplicating your image, selecting the subject and masking it out, then use the sliders to darken the background. It would be a pity to miss out the whole month because of one challenge.
i was able to do, ty for tips on how to to it with a photo https://the-lilypad.com/forum/threads/january-29-black-background.81861/page-5#post-1420665
Thank you so much for this awesome challenge! I would have never thought about using a black background for taking a picture, but I love the look of it! It kind of reminds me of the look of classical oil painting portraits.
