Ha! So I know this is a BIG question with a lot of answers but I've decided that DH is getting me a DSLR for Christmas this year! :yesss

Anyways, I'm just starting my research and I thought I would post here to see what you all think? What do you use? What do you like? etc....

I really like the idea of a "live preview" but from what I've seen online it really isn't that useful on a DSLR. I guess maybe I might be able to get over it! LOL

I'm also going to be looking into getting a lens but I really don't understand those so I am taking it one thing at a time, :dizzy

I really want the Canon EOS T2i because it also does HD video. I use video clips almost as much as pictures, so to have a DSLR with video would be heaven to me. :)

I have the Canon 40D and LOVE it! I have a Tamron lens on it - bought just the camera body and the lens seperate! I also have a battery pack attached that I love too - allows me to have a nice hand grip and the ability to shoot vertically with an extra shutter button on the grip! I also have a 50mm 1.8 lens that is fantastic too and super affordable for an extra lens!

I have had a Canon and a Nikon, and I love my Nikon so much better. I have the D90. A wonderful camera. I use the kit lens that came with it most of the time. I like having the range.

Although I kind of regret looking so soon because December is still a long time to wait, LOL!! I feel like a little kid!

I am another happy owner of the Nikon D90. As for Nikon vs. Canon, I think it is best to go to a camera shop and try them both out.

I heart my Nikon D90. :wub I had my brother's D300 for a few months and I actually like the D90 better (shhhh, don't tell him! ;)) I have an old D70s that still works just great too. Hubby and other family get to use that one.

I agree with carolee on the Nikon vs Canon thing. I am a Nikon person through and through, but they both make great cameras and it's about what feels right in your hands and works best for you. I highly recommend spending time in a good camera store that is going to let you spend time handling both brands and seeing what feels good in your hands. If you have friends with cameras see if they'll let you hang out and shoot for an afternoon.

i have to say I'm a Nikon girl myself! and here i thought most everyone used canon! lol! I've had my Nikon D70 for over 6 years now, i think it was the newest thing at the time-haha! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I have my heart oogling the D700 as that's my next step- someday.....

i have to admit though, i went into the camera shop to compare the D700 and Canon Mark 5D Mark II and held them in my hands and kinda like the feel of the Canon....NOOOO!!!! When you get into those full frames they are quite a bit larger in the hand and i have to say the Canon was a much easier fit- plus i liked the placement of the aperature control....decisions decisions....

I do have the original kit lens which is pretty wonderful with great range, and can't live without my 50mm 1.4 and 60mm 2.8! I think when it actually comes down to being able to spend $3000 on a camera, it'll be a tough choice. Till then, i think NIKON is the BESTEST!

Both Nikon and Canon are great it really comes down to what feels better in your hands and how comfortable you are with the controls and using the camera. I'm lost shooting my buddies nikon and i love my canon but only because thats what my hands are use to. If i knew how to shoot Nikon I would shoot both, LOL

Ditto what Rez said. I'm also a Canon girl. I own a Canon 50D and I LOVE it. I love how I can spin the fly wheel for my aperture setting and just how everything feels. But again, it's what I'm used too. :)
