For this month's challenge, we are going to try a simple out of bounds tutorial. I love the perspective this technique gives to a page. It is fun to try. I hope you will give it a shot. Sometimes the hardest part is finding a photo to use. Here are a few tips when choosing a photo: Action photos often work well. Also any photo where the focus of the picture can "come forward" and lose a bit of the background around it without losing the meaning/content. So with that said, let's get started:

I wanted to make the pumpkin look like it was outside the photo and in my little pumpkin garden.

    Step one: Photo 1
    Clipped photo.JPG

I Bring in Kim’s phrame, create a layer under it, grab my rectangular marquis tool and create a rectangle roughly the size of the Phrame and fill it with color (I chose white). Then I brought in my photo and clipped it to it.

    Step two: Photo 2
    Invert mask.JPG

I duplicated my photo and brought it above the Phrame in the layers panel. I then added a layer mask and held down Ctrl I to invert it to black. That hid my top photo.

    Step three: Photo 3
    Starting to brush.JPG
I got my brush tool and started brushing (with the layer mask selected not the photo) and roughly brushed in her arms and the pumpkin. Make sure your default colors are black and white and that white is the top color. Your photo should look something like this: Photo 4
    Rough brush.JPG
    Step four: Photo 5
    Close up brush.JPG

I then zoomed my photo way in and changed my color to black and started brushing away the part of the photo I did not want shown. It is a little tedious, but doable and I was just using my mouse.

    Photo 6
    Detailed brush.JPG
I make my brush really small and do around the photo first, then I make it a little bigger and get the in between stuff. I do a lot of back and forth between white and black and a lot of resizing of my brush until I am satisfied.

    Photo 7
    All done.JPG

it doesn’t have to be perfect, and I zoom back out and take a look and am satisfied with the final results. I then link the photos together.

    Step five Photo 8
    Capture.JPG

At this point you can be done, or you can take it a step further and distort the frame just a little depending on the look you want. To do this, I highlighted the Phrame and the rectangular box I had made to clip the photo to. I then hit Ctrl T to get my transform tool. I then right click inside of it and pick distort. In my particular photo, I only played with the top and bottom right side to tweak my Phrame a little. That left me with a little clean up to do in my brushing Photo 9 Clean up.JPG So I clicked on the layer mask thumbnail of my top photo and set my color chip to black and cleaned it up. Photo 10
    All clean.JPG

Then I linked these two layers and I was ready to finish my page.

Then I was ready to finish my page.
Christa also has an Out of Bounds tutorial that uses a mask if you want to try that out:

I don't quite understand how to do this. Will have to keep trying and see if I can make it work. I'm getting lost and what layers I need and where, in the beginning steps.

    **edit**

think I've got it now.. might have to find a better photo for it though
