Interesting challenge. Wish it was easier to do in Artisan! I think I conquered it somehow! I used Paintstrokes 1, 4, and 5 on the photo and 7 and 9 in the background. I also used one of the background papers. For Artisan users for what it's worth - I could not find a blend feature. I put the paint strokes on the photo, flattened and then cut off the extra edges. I played around with several hue/light adjustments to "blend" the paint into the picture. It looks similar to others here in the thread, so I was happy with it. Maybe @QuiltyMom and @tinkerbell1112 will have better instructions when they try!
My Great Aunt and her sister on a farm in Michigan in 1918 Items used from the freebie toolkit: Drop 3 Drop 5 Gesso 1 Gesso 3 Gesso 7 Gesso 8 Paint stroke 3 Paint stroke 4 Paint stroke 5 Paint stroke 9 Paint stroke 10 Paper oil paint
I decided lets make a big mess... as if I painted over the photo onto the background as well. Brushes on photo Paintstroke 4 on top and Gesso 4 (difference blend) on bottom Canvas paper with multiply on photo Gesso paint 1 png left and top side of photo Oil paint paper as background Paints and word art under the photo are from Wanderlust kit Thanks for the brushes. I need to play some more with them to really understand all the benefits.
I hope this works. I use Artisan & played around as best I could. I used the canvas background & then played with the opacity on my photo as well as blurring the edges. Then I pulled in all the paintstrokes I listed in the gallery - resized, layered & changed the opacity until I was happy. I didn't change the color only because I didn't like it with my picture. I was able to play around with the wash feature though before I went back to just white. Hope that might help someone else.
Thank you for the fun challenge and the goodies to play with. I definitely need to play and learn more about brushes and blends. Used on the oceaqn and beach: gesso-paints8- soft light; gesso-paints7- luminosity; gesso-paints6- soft light; gesso-paints8- soft light; gesso-paints5- soft light; paintstroke10- soft light; paintstroke3- soft light; gesso-paints1- overlay; gesso-paints9- linear burn I'm not sure of everything I did on the seal. I just had fun layering it up!
Like so many others, I think I need additional "play time" to improve my technique! I feel like to result is pretty subtle, but I am happy with the result. Product credits are in the gallery. (All NBK - thank you!!)
Interesting...I think I got it...hehe I used: Drops #1, 5 Paint Strokes - #5, 7, 10 Paper - Canvas, Abstract Kit - Fern, by Rebecca McMeen

Not sure if this really looks like the photo is painted, but I had fun putting it together. Here was my process: 1st copy of photo: Blend mode - luminosity. I clipped it to NBK MOC8 Paintstroke 2 with a blend mode of linear light. Next layers: NBK gesso paints 8 with Linear burn mode NBK gesso paints 1 with multiply mode 2nd copy of photo: Blend mode - Linear Burn Next layers: NBK paintstroke 10 - normal mode Base paper: NBK MOC8 Paper - Canvas
When i click on the brushes to open them in Photoshop 2020 where my layout is, it wants to open them in 2019 photoshop. Anyone else experience this and know how to fix it?
I used the Painststroke 4 and 5, Gesso paints1 and Drops3 as well as some of the brushes for my picture and I created the background using the dinamic brushes.
I used Paint Strokes 2, 3, 5, 6 on the image Plus Gesso pieces 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 around the image I love this mini-kit, thank you!! And thank YOU Dalis for your help. I like it more now.
I used paintstroke7 as a mask, paintstroke 1 under the photo, 3 and 8 with soft light and color blending. Also used elements from Painter's toolbox Your Day and ArtCrush 11, 13 for coloring and decorating the page. All from NBK design.
