question - is it ok to use a photo mask just to make the edges have that painty, uneven look, as long as we're not depending on the mask to create the paint texture in the photo? Thanks!
I've had a time to think about how to do this in Artisan as I sit here getting everything transferred over to my new computer. I'm guessing that we'd put down a gesso or paint, add a blend effect to it, then mess with the intensity, color, opaqueness, etc. to get what we want. I'll play around with it once I've got everything up and running again.
hoping I did this correctly as I really like how my page turned out, lol. items used: Canvas paper under photo: gesso brushes 4, 6, 7, 9 on top of photo: dynamic -paint stroke pink, blend mode-color burn dynamic paint stroke paint yellow, blend mode-color burn, fill 86% dynamic-gesso paint brown, blend mode-color burn, fill 79% border around page: dynamic paint stroke blue, blend mode-multiply, fill 64%
I used the following from Nicole's Painters Toolbox: Dynamic brush paintstroke yellow, blending mode screen, opacity 67% Dynamic brush paintstroke paint, blending mode screen, opacity 100% Dynamic brush paintstroke blue, blending mode overlay, opacity 100% Gesso Paints 6 (x2), blending mode multiply, opacity 100% Background paper, blending mode pin light, opacity 52%, fill 33% All these layers are clipped to the photo and to the mask Mask made with brush paintstroke 10 Gesso paints 2 & 3 (with red colour dots) above the photo (not clipped), blending mode multiply, opacity 100% Paintstroke 10 (png) under the photo (left)
what does dynamic brushes mean? also when i go to the link for nbk video there are a bunch and i dont know which one is about using brushes. thanks for any help
Usually Nicole uses her brushes in the unpacking video's try this one: about halfway through (16:40) it is time for the brushes.
@QuiltyMom I've been playing and haven't quite figured out what to do. I can place paints on top of photo, recolor and flatten, but I'm not sure how to blend. Is there a blending function?
Now that was a real challenge! I used - canvas paper Paintstoke 2, as is gesso paint 1, as is gesso paint 8, linear burn gesso paint 5, linear burn
I haven't been able to figure out how to do this in Artisan either - in order to make the entire picture painted. If that's a requirement, we Artisan users might be in trouble. I was able to make most of my picture painted though by putting the paint directly on top of the picture and adjusting opacity on the ones that were on top of the part of the picture I want to see. I hope this is ok. I used 1. gesso paints 3 2. paint stroke 2 3. paint stroke 3 4. paint stroke 4 5. gesso paints 7 6. Gesso paints 4
I'm going off memory here since I'm still installing everything, but if you right-click on the element it'll bring up a menu. Go to Effects and Add an Effect (It starts with one, so you may be able to edit that). Then choose Blend, and from there you can choose what you want to blend it with: color, paper... I think it gives you 50% blend, but if you change the slider that will change. If you go to 100% then you will loose the textures of the element, so maybe afterwares tweaking the hue/color/contrast will give you the effect you're looking for. I think it'll be a couple of hours before I'm all set to play again, but I'll see what I can do and let ya'll know.
You could apply one of the Filter Textures like Linen to get the canvas weave look. Try making multiple copies of the photo and change the opacity to make them look blended.
Thanks for the awesome paintbox tools!!!!! Here is mine. From the Painters Toolbox, I used: Paper Canvas, Paint strokes 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 combined together to form mask for photograph, paint drops 1 (small splatters on top & bottom of page), gesso paints 1, 2, 8 on top of photograph.
Credits: I used: -- Dynamic Brushes -- Gesso Brush 1 -- Canvas Paper (Pin light) -- Paint drop 5 (lowered opacity)
I used the canvas paper and a floral paper from NBK's new release Love and Light. I changed the opacity on that. I also used a brush on the pick and a mask and change the opacity on that as well. Thank you Nicole for the freebie.
Dynamic brushes are 2 different colors in the same brush and the brush everytime you stamp it will change size, direction and opacity each time you stamp with the brush.
