@littlekiwi - I don't know what version of PSE you have, but I started in PSE 2019. If you drag items into your photo bin first and then onto your page, the name of that item will come with it in your layers panel. As long as the designer included the kit name in the file name for the element, you will have a reference for where it came from.

If you drag directly onto your page, it does not keep the file name but gives it layer # name. I don't have PSE on my machine anymore, but there maybe a preference setting that I changed to make this retention of the name happen.

 

@BevG I have PSE 15. I did figure out if you use “Place”, the file names come in with the layers which works just as well.
