Welcome to December! Can you believe it's the last month of the year? I'm excited to be popping in with your inspiration challenge this month. This month we are playing with Monochromatic Color. Basically, that means the tints, tones and shades of a single color. Usually, black and white, or grayscale is what comes to mind with the word monochrome, but it is any hue. So, your challenge this month is to create a monochromatic page. You can pick any color. It's okay if the photos you use have more than one color, but for best effect, it's helpful if one color stands out. I choose orange to complement the orange in the flowers. Enjoy creating! As always, please remember the monthly challenge rules: Your page must contain at least 75% Lilypad product. Your page should be posted to the Lilypad Gallery and then linked to the December Challenge Layouts thread so it can be tracked, and to this thread. The Lilypad uses a percent system for our challenges; the number of challenges you participate in determines the store discount you will receive at the end of the month: 2 challenges = 10% off 4 challenges = 20% off 6 challenges = 30% off If you complete 7 challenges, you will receive a coupon for 30% off, plus you will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate from the Lilypad! The first seven challenges will be posted on the first of the month; the eighth challenge is the BYOC challenge, which is posted on BYOC release day. Each page counts for one challenge (you cannot use one layout for multiple challenges).
I'm not sure if white is allowed as well as the color? But here's what I came up with ... all shades of browns, plus the white! (but I'm a polly so my page doesn't count anyway.)
A little white or a little black is ok. The idea is to make the color nuances really stand out and be highlighted. I think for maximum effect the grey paper on the right adds too much. I love the mix of browns you used.
I can't post my page until Wednesday. I just wanted you to know this is the first monochromatic page I've done that I actually like!
I'm sorry you are less than thrilled. I love the way you used the blues to emphasize the storm clouds! What don't you like?
Courtney, I'm not really sure. It is okay but it doesn't make my heart sing or seem to have any "zing" to it. I guess I usually prefer more contrast. I love Jenn and Kayka's layouts so I can see the possibilities. Not feeling well today so possibly that has colored my attitude. Did you ever start a layout and nothing seemed to work or look the way you planned or saw in your mind's eye, yet you kept messing and messing with it until finally you just "settled" and called it done and moved on? This was one of those. Reminded me of Aaron's post on the blog last week about when do you toss it and just start over.
Yes! I totally get that. In fact, I started this layout with different photos - snow photos. I was going to go with a white layout, but it wasn't working. So I tossed it. And started looking through my photos again. For me, this was outside my comfort zone. I always admire people who do it so well!
